Welcome back to the second half term of the academic year. I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful half term break. This week has seen many of our year 11 cohort sit their English language GCSE exam. I know the huge commitment and effort students have shown in preparation for this exam and wish everyone well when the final results are released in January.

The Academies have been identified as two of twenty schools in the south west who are on a journey to outstanding. Sir David Carter (Regional Schools Commissioner) has invited myself and 18 other Headteachers to take part in the year long programme with a firm belief that when Glenmoor and Winton are next inspected by Ofsted they will be graded outstanding in all areas. This is recognition for the continuous improvement being seen across both Academies and the community's growing and sustained support.

Congratulations to all the Academies sports teams who continue to exemplify all that is great about Glenmoor and Winton and are now competing more regularly on a national stage. This was typified by the Year 9 football team who recently defeated Chichester College 6-1 in the third round of the national cup. Well done to Mr Ferris and the boys.

Finally it is with great sadness that I report the passing away of a member of staff at the Academies over the half term break. Mrs Elaine Perry was the Academies office manager within our support team and has been a loyal and hugely respected member of staff throughout her time at the Academies. Elaine has been off work for a significant period of time fighting serious illness and our sincere condolences go to all of Elaine's family and friends.

Wear RED For Refugees

Ribbon Cutting at the Local Co-Op

Our rugby results continue to go from strength to strength. Mid-October saw cracking results from the Under 16’s with a 28-5 victory against Bishop of Winchester. The Under 13’s did well too with a 10-5 victory against Bishop and a 12-0 win against Parkfield School. Well done lads!

Our students were so moved by the situation facing the Syri-an refugees that they wanted to raise money to support those living in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan. A Wear RED for Refugees charity mufti day was held on the last day of school raising much needed funds. Students examined key aspects of the crisis in their geography, history and ethics lessons. Mapping the routes the refugees have taken to flee Syria, examining media reports on the tragedy and debating what it actually means to be a human in a global community.

Trampoline club...boing..boing!

This club is always a roaring success every Friday after school. Trampo-line club is open to all year groups and we have participants from years 7 to 11. Come along and join in the fun and get your weekend of with a bit of bounce!

A group of students from year 7 were invited to attend the grand opening of the local Co-Op in Ensbury Park. Students helped with the ribbon cutting and were rewarded with tasty goody bags. The store has been re-launched on the site of the old Ensbury Park Hotel building and now forms a focal point in the local community. The staff are very friendly and keen to promote strong community links. Pop in, they have a great community notice board in store.
