Suggestions for Instructors It makes it easier on students if the names of the files you post include the course

designation (e.g., CI5375_FileName.docx). That way, students can keep track of which documents go with which courses.

You might also consider including version numbers (e.g., V1, V2, V3) at the end of your filenames to help you keep track of your latest version of a document (e.g., SOWK5324_ObservationPaper_V1.docx).

We have often heard family members and others saying that the 40s and 50s were the good old days when people were kinder and everyone was helpful. Hopefully, you will be able to apply the discussions to your life and your life’s work.

Self-Analysis: How to Deal with Worry and AnxietyContent editorReview the points and complete the steps below to see where you stand in regard to worries that you may have. These steps may help you see that some worry and anxiety are common to all of us. Great leaders have had many worries and certainly anxiety. What we must learn is how to control and deal with our anxious moments. This will help us as we deal with difficult people at work and maybe in our own families.

Your written responses are for your own self-analysis. Even though you will not need to submit your answers, don’t just think about your responses. Writing them down will help you reflect more deeply and effectively about your worries and anxieties and how to address them.

1. Be aware of your emotions. Face your anxieties. Don't run from them or they will return to haunt you. Admit that you do worry or have anxiety (but only if you really do). Do not worry about being anxious. That just reinforces or perpetuates the problem.

2. Write down the worries and anxieties you have on a piece of paper. Be very specific and complete as you describe them.

3. Write down the reason or cause for your anxiety. Investigate the source. Is there a possibility that you can eliminate the source or cause of your worry? Have you tried? What have you tried specifically?

4. Accept the things in your life which you cannot change, and stop concentrating on them.

5. When you get become anxious, is it over something major or minor? Is it truly something which demands as much attention and concentration as you are giving it? Remember that often our worries and anxieties are disguised forms of the fear of what others think of us.

6. When a problem arises, face it and make a decision as to what you can do about it. Make a list of all the possible solutions and decide which you think is the best one. If these are minor decisions, make your decision fairly quickly, taking more time for major ones. Do not hesitate to seek advice. Look at the facts and then decide, but do not continue to be anxious about it. After you have looked at the facts and made your decision, do not question your choice. Otherwise the anxiety pattern will erupt all over again. As soon as possible act upon your decision.

7. Do not be afraid of failure. If you fail in the beginning, do not give up. Continue to make informed decisions and act on them.

Self-Analysis: What Do You Think of Yourself?Content editorIt is always much easier to comment in general about self-image or lack of communication skills. However, how do you rate in the area of self-image? The following questions should give you a clear picture about your own perceptions.

Page 9: I Web viewNote: You can also access ... CATE5314_PPT_General_Motivation] Mini lecture transcript [link to: ... Mini lecture transcript CATE5314_transcript_eclecticcounseling.docx

CATE 5314 Human RelationsTRACS Design

You do not need to submit your answers, but please take a moment to write them down. Written reflection can help you focus on the most relevant issues and solutions so you can follow up on them more effectively.

1. Do you blame yourself for failures that were not your fault?

2. If yes, list some failures in your life that are not your fault, but seemed to be laid at your feet.

3. Do you constantly think about things you cannot change?

4. If yes, what do you think about that you can't change?

5. Do I believe that I am physically unattractive to others?

6. By what standard do I compare myself?

7. Do others seem to get promotions, more money and more praise than I do?

8. If the preceding item is true, why is it true? If there is anything I can do to change it? If so, why haven’t I done that?

9. As I meet and mix with others, do I fail to obtain long lasting friendships?

10. If the preceding item is true, why is it true?

Assignment: Strengths/Weaknesses PaperContent editorWrite a 1-page, double-spaced paper in Word using a 12-point font that addresses the prompt below. Save your paper as LastNameFirstInitial_Strengths.doc (e.g., SmithJ_Strengths.doc) and submit it to Assignments by the due date in the syllabus.

All of us have looked at things that we do well and also things we do not do well. I knew I was not a singer. However, I was able to speak well. I entered speech contests and stayed away from singing contests. Although strengths and weaknesses sometimes can be handled by avoidance, other weaknesses cannot be ignored. If I have a bad habit of dominating a conversation, I am going to have to correct that to be successful in the workplace. For this paper discuss your strengths and weaknesses and indicate how you are going to correct your weaknesses.

Your paper will be graded using the Paper Rubric posted to Resources. Please review the rubric before you submit your paper.

Discussion: Education, Experience, and Your Self- ImageContent editorGo to Forums and respond to the prompt below in the Education, Experience, and Your Self- Image discussion area by the due date in the syllabus.

One thing we need to consider when looking at our self imageself-image is that education and experience can change our self imageself-image. Some persons may

indicate that they actually feel empowered when they have overcome a difficult problem and become stronger through that experience. Others who obtained more education may also report a positive change in self imageself-image. Discuss your views on how education and experience can change one’s self imageself-image.

Respond to the prompt and at least one other student by the due dates in the syllabus.

Assignment: Self-Improvement PaperContent editorWrite a 1-page, double-spaced paper in Word using a 12-point font that addresses the prompt below. Save your paper as LastNameFirstInitial_SelfImprovement.doc (e.g., SmithJ_SelfImprovement.doc) and submit it to Assignments by the due date in the syllabus.

It is valuable to discuss all the things that we do correctly and certainly the things we do not do well. However, it is very difficult to outline a plan to improve our self-image. This becomes very personal and may bring up issues that require us to think about our negative self-image. For this paper write how you are going to deal with any self-image issues you may have. If you don’t have any self-image problems write an essay about why you have no self-image problems.

Please review the Paper Rubric in Resources before you submit your paper.

Discussion: Instructor Effect on Self ImageContent editorGo to Forums and respond to the prompt below in the Instructor Effect on Self Image discussion area by the due date in the syllabus.

Instructors and trainers have an impact on our self-image. We know that those we respect who comment about our abilities can have a positive or negative effect on our lives and ambitions. For this forum discuss your views of what type of effect instructors and trainers have on adult and traditional students.

Respond to the prompt and at least one other student by the due dates in the syllabus.

Assignment: Instructor Effect on Self Image PaperContent editorWrite a 1-page, double-spaced paper in Word using a 12-point font that addresses the prompt below. Save your paper as LastNameFirstInitial_Image.doc (e.g., SmithJ_Image.doc) and submit it to Assignments by the due date in the syllabus.

All of us remember those who had a significant impact on us over the years. In fact, even professors and trainers have an impact on us now as we participate in lectures and go through training at work. For this assignment look at instructors and trainers you have known and evaluate the impact they have on the self-image of students or those being trained. Consider why they have an impact even on adult students.
