The Iacocca Global Village for Future Leaders is a leadership development experiencelike no other. We believe that ethical leadership matters. We believe that knowledge of business and industry, skills in leadership and entrepreneurship, and the development of a powerful global network are essential to success. We recognize the importance of cultural values and believe that effective leaders break down negative barriers. We believe that Iacocca Global Village is the place where futureleaders are created.

HE IACOCCA GLObAL VILLAGEfor Future Leaders is an applied leadership, management, and cross-cultural experience. It is designed for young professionals and advanced

students who share the dream of building aleadership career with global impact, and whowant to form an active and lasting global network.Through program sessions, topic-specific

panels, networking sessions, company visits,consulting projects and cultural experiences,Global Village participants learn new tools andgain insightful perspectives that are essential tobecoming successful leaders. During the inten-sive five-week program, Villagers find them-selves amongst a diverse group of 75-100 indi-viduals, coming from 45+ countries, represent-

ing a myriad of cultures, speaking a multitudeof languages, and offering unique insights basedupon their own background, education andexperience.The program requires no academic prerequi-

sites and delivers no traditional grades. Villagersattend “learning sessions,” not “classes” and“discussions,” not “lectures.” Villagers establishtheir own goals and objectives and work withprogram staff to map a customized and experi-ence-based action plan.

PROGRAM SESSIONS ANDHOT TOPIC DISCUSSIONSIacocca Global Village is about exposure tosome of the most critical topics affectingbusiness. With more than 30 sessions and hottopic discussions presented by international anddomestic facilitators, Villagers discover businesstrends and best practices found in the globalmarketplace. Sessions provide necessary skillsidentified by successful leaders and focus in theareas of cultural competency, ideation, creativeenergy, business and industry knowledge, management skills, leadership skills, and networking trends.

EXECUTIVE VISITORSDuring the Iacocca Global Village, Villagershave the opportunity to interact with morethan 50 global and regional executives whorepresent large and small corporations,

family-owned businesses, NGO’s, start-upcompanies, and sole proprietorships. Each week, top level executives visit andinteract with the Villagers, sharing businessand sector experiences and discussing topicsof interest. Knowledge is shared and newperspectives are explored offering theVillagers a wide array of role models andconnections to their networks. More impor-tantly, Villagers direct the conversation byasking questions, raising objections, offeringalternative points of view and discussing thebest practices of their respective nations. Again and again, visiting executives tell uswhat a rare joy it is to have the opportunityto learn from our microcosm of the worldand share their own experiences.

The experience is unique and the opportunities are abundant. By selecting sessions,panels, executive visitor round tables, key company visits, a business consulting project,and presenting one’s country, villagers’ knowledge of business and industry will beincreased, leadership and entrepreneurial skills will be strengthened, and a global network will develop. Learning experiences are individually customized and enhancedthrough interactions and the many cultures represented among the Global Villagers.

COUNTRY PRESENTATIONSIacocca Global Villagers, many of whom areor will be business leaders, are being chal-lenged to operate in an increasingly complex,interdependent, and dynamic global environ-ment. To compete and succeed, leaders mustunderstand the business and political climate,opportunities, cultural nuances, and accept-able professional practices of countries aroundthe world. The Country Presentations offerIacocca Global Villagers the opportunity toshare their countries “best business practices”with their Village colleagues, the LehighUniversity community and local leaders.Through this presentation, the Villagers willbe asked to be creative in “pitching” theircountry as a potential for business investment.However, the presentation should also be sureto include information on potential obstacles

to overcome, the influence of culture, andbest practices while doing business in thatcountry. The presentations will be evaluatedby a team of Global Village guides and peersfor overall presentation, creativity of presenta-tion, speaking skills, body language, and a rat-ing on the potential of business investment inthat country.

bUSINESS CONSULTING PROJECTSUnder the supervision of an external client andprogram mentor, Iacocca Global Village con-sulting teams are challenged to provide anappropriate business solution for an issue orproblem faced by an external client. Thedesigns, demands and deadlines are real.Starting with basic project management tech-niques, Villagers are immersed in the deadlines,client demands, challenges to overcome timeconstraints, management of cultural barriersand ultimately, to deliver a set of strongly crafted and unique recommendations. Theseprojects provide the opportunity to experiencethe pressures and to reap the rewards of delivering value to clients while working on a diverse team.

COMPANY VISITSIn addition to program sessions, Villagershave options to visit local organizations.During guided site visits, organizations high-light their best practices, success factors andlessons learned, as well as overall trends and

opportunities in their sector. Business leadersshare company developments, difficulties andcompetitive advantages while Villagers askquestions that explore insights into the com-pany’s growth and development. Iacocca Global Villagers also visit organiza-tions in regional centers of business includingNew York City and Washington DC. A daytrip to New York includes visits to premierbusinesses and organizations. A multi-daytrip to Washington DC provides insight intoorganizations centered in the capital of theUnited States.

PANELSThe Iacocca Global Village provides discus-sions focused on important topics affectingthe world today. A forum where the Villagersand the executives interact, discuss anddebate, sessions are driven by dynamicexchanges, energy and the interactions of thepanelists with each other.

VILLAGER LED SESSIONSVillagers can propose their own sessions to dis-cuss global topics, hold informal group seminarsand share their own businesses, hobbies and skillswith their peers.

The Iacocca Global Village provides an experience that is unique to each participant.Villagers develop a set of goals and work with their personal guide to choose the curricularelements that will help them advance in their work, career and life. With so many opportunities, Villagers quickly learn the value of time management and decision making skills.

SCHEDULEThe five week schedule includes 4 specializedsessions, 8 opportunities to meet local execu-tives, 2 themed panel sessions, over 55 hoursof team project work, 45+ country presenta-tions, several seminars, 3 cultural exchangeevents, negotiation simulations, Hot Topicsessions led by Villagers, guides and execu-tives, service projects and visits to New YorkCity and Washington, DC. With so manychoices and variables in the schedule, theexperience is rich and unique. Learning experiences are customized based on the sessions selected, the executive meetingschosen, and the company visits attended.Each year the program introduces new execu-tives, facilitators, and sessions to the curricu-lum to stay in front of business trends, andto develop tested and proven skills. Lastly,team dynamics and interactive sessions add a cross-cultural component to the learning experiences.

GUIDESTo assist Villagers with their choices and tooptimize the Iacocca Global Village experi-ence, the candidate manager assigns eachaccepted applicant a Guide. Chosen from theranks of our alumni, Guides collaborate with

Villagers to design a unique program of custom choices that match the Villager’s objec-tives. Focused on goal attainment, Guides provide Villagers with assistance in developingshort and long-term goals, and then an actionplan to achieve those goals.

CULTURAL UNDERSTANDINGLiving, working and learning together provideour Villagers with a microcosm of the worldduring the Iacocca Global Village program.Villagers represent various academic majors,professions, countries, ages and cultures- a tapestry of diversity. Each Villager is encour-aged to bring a formal national dress, as well as anecdotes, songs, poems, audio/video andother expressions of their cultural heritage.The Iacocca Global Village offers many oppor-tunities to share, celebrate, and understand thevalue and majesty of international diversity.To encourage social interaction across

cultural barriers and to enhance this multicul-tural experience, Villagers share a room in on-campus dormitory housing. The dormitoryprovides a family-style kitchen, living rooms,dining areas and common area for social andcultural functions.

Iacocca Global Village on the Move programs are mobile versions ofLehigh University’s highly acclaimed Iacocca Global Village programand offer an international experience in combination with a profession-al level educational experience. Programs provide a flavor of the localbusiness culture and regional business landscape, in locations through-out the world. Lehigh hosts this unique learning program each summer to educate 76top high school students from the U.S. and other countries. The fourweek experiential program focuses on the topics of global entrepreneur-ship leadership, innovation, creativity, and doing business around theworld. Students participate in core and focus courses, executive ses-sions, large and small group seminars and workshops, and visits toNew York City, Harrisburg and organizations in the Lehigh Valley.One of the highlights of the program includes student marketing/busi-ness plan team projects with local business partners. Jointly founded in 1988 by Lee Iacocca andLehigh University, the Iacocca Institute cre-ates innovative programs and initiatives thatchallenge and develop the next generationof global leaders. We are dedicated to culti-vating the potential of individuals byempowering the leaders of today and tomor-row.

LEHIGH UNIVERSITY®

Founded in 1865 and recognized among thenation’s premier research universities, Lehighis a co-educational, non-denominational, pri-vate university located a little more than anhour’s car ride from New York City. Its pic-turesque 1600-acre wooded campus is builton the side of a small mountain in historicBethlehem, PA and is considered one ofAmerica’s most beautiful campuses. Lehigh islocated within a thriving economic and cul-tural corridor of the eastern United States.

QUALIFICATIONSThe Iacocca Institute is looking for highlymotivated, unique and well-rounded individ-uals with a vision and a sense of mission.Academic excellence should be balanced withleadership experience. The program is conducted in English and fluency is required.

PROGRAM FEES US $7,500Program Fees include education materials,five weeks of housing, and excursions toNew York City and Washington D.C.Limited partial scholarship opportunities areavailable. Travel to and from LehighUniversity and meal expenses are NOTincluded in the tuition costs.

After the pilot program for the Iacocca Global Village in 1997, Lee Iacocca said, “In a chang-ing world, a first step toward leadership is taking advantage of a genuine opportunity. A secondstep is recognizing others that do the same.” This summer, the door to that network opens againas approximately 75-100 Villagers will join over 2122 GV Alumni from 139 countries.
