WELCOME TO ISCTEBUSINESSSCHOOL

IBS Master your Future | 4

ISCTE Business School is a school with a growing international reputation, accredited by AACSB-Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, main educational accreditation organization operating on an international level, recognizing the school’s excellence and high quality in the development of managers and leaders in a globalized world. IBS is also fully accredited by AMBA-Association of MBA and has a vast network of international partnerships. We have student and staf exchange agreements with more than 130 institutions worldwide.

IBS is one of four schools that constitute the University ISCTE–IUL - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, along with the School of Sociology and Public Policy, School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Technology and Architecture. ISCTE-IUL is at the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, as one of the world’s youngest universities that outperform their older counterparts when it comes to attracting overseas students and publishing international research and also at the Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings.

Located in the heart of Lisbon, one of the safest and most afordable capital cities in Europe and one of the world top tourist destinations, ISCTE Business School is recognised for its excellence in learning and research, international and multicultural environment, and the solid connection to the business world.

IBS has approximately 170 teachers (134.98 FTE) distributed throughout its six Departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Operations and Management, Quantitative Methods for Management and Economics, and Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour. VALUE PROPOSITION OF IBS

IBS IS A PIONEER SCHOOL in the teaching of management and business sciences, and the irst where this was an autonomous area as opposed to a subject taught within the ield of economics.

THE LINKS TO THE CORPORATE WORLD are a distinctive feature of our School. Since the outset, IBS has relied on the support of invited faculty from the business world whose collaboration has provided valuable input for our

curricula. It is therefore not surprising that, regardless of the economic environment, successive generations of students have enjoyed employability rates close to 100%.

EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, companies recognize the high quality of the training given to IBS students and this conidence is boosted by the volume and excellence of the research produced by our faculty members and researchers. Internationalization is the second distinguishing feature of our School. Not only does IBS teach courses in partnerships with universities from Asia, Africa and South America but, within the Portuguese university framework, IBS has also pioneered the setting-up of a support oice for Erasmus students. This model, which works in conjunction with universities around the world, has attracted so many foreign students that we have been unable to attain full reciprocity despite the growing number of IBS students who beneit from a training experience abroad. The ability to work in an international setting is clearly demonstrated by the number of Alumni working abroad, many of whom hold leadership positions in multinational companies.

INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP are the third distinctive feature of our School. Pedagogical innovation led to the updating of syllabuses as well as the introduction of new teaching methods; these include the development of case studies and software support for management and distance learning instruments. It is not by chance that many reference texts in the various management ields have been written by IBS faculty.

LASTLY, SPECIAL MENTION must be made of the close relationship that IBS faculty and staf develop with our students and the concern for their well-being as this is a decisive factor for the high academic performance of our students. The intellectual rigour in the classroom, the promotion of team work and the exposure to real case studies allow IBS to create value for our students, and guarantee they make positive contribution to the development of the national and global community.

IBSGLOBALEXPERIENCE

Currently ISCTE Business School students study in more than

36 countries all over the world. Additionally, students of almost

60 nationalities are enrolled in our undergraduate and graduate

programmes and in our annual Summer Schools. This multicultural

atmosphere allows both Portuguese and foreign students to have

first-hand contact with colleagues from a myriad of backgrounds, while

sharing the experiences of their own culture.

This was my irst experience living abroad. I learned how to live by myself and I had to deal with a completely diferent culture and language in a city where most people do not speak

English. Personally, I feel that learning the language of a foreign country was the most important experience while studying abroad. It helps you to understand the culture and not to feel excluded. (…) If you are a foreigner, you might have to get used to being treated diferently in a good way. Sometimes it means someone will want to talk to you, take a picture of you or ofer you free drinks. After a few months, this city will feel like home. It has the perfect balance between the western world and the Chinese culture.

IBSTESTIMONIESViktorija Vilkotyté

Credit Risk Analyst at Salt Mobile SALisbon, Portugal

Studying at ISCTE Business School I remember as challenging but also very fun. The school promotes proactivity and gives a lot of opportunities to its students. Here you can grow

not only professionally but also as a person as there are a lot of activities being organized all year long. We had a negotiation course in Spain, opportunities for summer schools all over the world and Erasmus programs. ISCTE creates a connection between students and companies thus making the young inexperienced people get closer to the professional world and receive various job opportunities through career fairs and internal job platforms. If I could turn the time back, I would deinitely choose ISCTE again. It is a window to your future.

Sebastian Mertens

In my opinion, the experience of studying at ISCTE Business School is highly valuable as both multicultural understanding and international management skills are becoming increasingly

important to employers.

Anne Hjortsholm

Studying the MSc in BA at IBS has been a great privilege. The programme is very well designed, challenging and has a broad coverage of the business ield. As a student, you will

be taught how to strive for excellence by dedicated professors. This master will thus not only provide you with a competitive degree, it will prepare you to excel in a global context.

Luoheng Zheng

Vice Principal of Finance at Gammastar Medical GroupShanghai City, China

With the entrance of China to WTO Chinese managers have to be ready to face global challenges. A degree obtained overseas ofers a chance to gain wider knowledge and skills. The Master in

International Management gave me a unique opportunity to know much more about doing business not on a local but on a global scale.

Sabrina Weber

Brand Manager at Lay’s & Doritos DACH - PepsiCoNeu-Isenburg, Germany

My decision to study at ISCTE Business School was the best decision I ever took during my whole academic life. Besides the high quality theoretical knowledge taught by fabulous

professors, who are not only experts in their ields but also care a lot about their students, the school ofers several seminars and workshops to improve and train the student’s leadership and teamwork skills.Furthermore, through the allocation of a personal mentor, each student’s individual strengths become more highly developed as well. In short, the Master’s programme at IBS prepares the student theoretically and practically for the challenging business world of today, thus making the graduate not only competitive but also unique.
