    Principal of Initiative Consulting

    The Principal of Initiative Consulting will be in charge of the Rotman Commerce studentorganization dedicated to providing free strategic solutions to local community and not-for-profitorganizations. As Principal, it will be your duty to coordinate the advancement of InitiativeConsulting, overseeing an organizational fit between the operational and consulting functions. Thisincludes hiring a Director of Marketing and a committee to assist you in promotions, a Senior

    Analyst to mange daily operations of projects, selecting engagement team members fromstudents, alumni and professionals and creating effective methods of evaluating the work ofengagement teams during the volunteer consulting project. Your main focus will be to raiseawareness of Initiative Consulting throughout the local community, and ensure the completion ofincumbent projects in your portfolio.

    Please answer the following questions on an attached sheet. All answers should not exceed 250words:

    1. Please tell us about yourself in less than 100 words.

    2. As Principal, you will be in charge of hiring the Consulting team members. What qualities do youthink are important in a good Consultant for non-profits? How would you find if these skills arepresent through an interview? What techniques would you use?

    3. What is your vision for Initiative Consulting? Where do you see it in 3 years? What are your plansto ensure this vision is achieved.

    4. Analyze and Answer the following case in 400 words or less. A wealthy woman,Mrs. Wentworth, who is worth millions, wants to invest in either the Boston Bruins (ahockey team) or the Boston Red Sox (a baseball team). She is indifferent betweenchoosing between the two teams, but would like to maximize the profit from theinvestment. Which team should she buy? Highlight any clarifying questions you wouldask. Feel free to make realistic assumptions on which to base your recommendations. Ifneeded, you are allowed one page of appendices which can include any graphs, tables,or calculations you deem necessary to present.

    Additional Facts1. The purchase price is the same for both franchises. Let us say that there is a $100 million

    price tag.

    1. The financing terms available to Mrs. Wentworth are the same, regardless of the team shechooses.

    1. The Balance Sheets of both teams are the same in terms of liabilities and assets.1. Ticket Prices on average are $25 for basketball games and $6.50 for baseball games.1. The number of hockey and baseball home games is 41 and 81, respectively.1. The stadium capacity is 20,000 for basketball games and 54,000 for baseball games.1. Utilization on average is 70% for both sporting events.

    1. Are there any time constraints throughout the year that may prohibit you from attendingmeetings or events? I.e. Working P/T, F/T, school, vacations. If planning a vacation, pleaseindicate dates.
