Welcome to the ICBCH The ICBCH has over 3600 members -
50 States, 17 countries, 6 continents.
We are excited to be a practical or-
ganization providing educational oppor-
tunities. About 85% of our members
are licensed mental health profession-
als, many making the transition to full-
time hypnosis practice. Other members
include personal fitness trainers, life
coaches, licensed massage therapists
and professional hypnotists. Our goal
is simple: to provide world class educa-
tion, teaching valuable, useful skills so
that clients will benefit.
One of my favorite websites is
scholar.google.com because it filters
the clutter and is a great place to do
research. Scholar.google.com only
finds results in journals, textbooks and
scholarly publications. A simple search
for hypnosis with any keyword such as
cancer treatment, smoking cessation,
weight management, IBS, Fibromyalgia
or sports performance will yield many
results indicating the positive impact of
integrating hypnosis into traditional
treatment practice. Professionals can
use this information to educate the
community and other professionals
about hypnosis as a practical, effective
therapeutic modality.
The ICBCH is here to support you.
We invite you to join our online group
at HypnoThoughts.com and benefit
from the experiences of other profes-
sionals who are also eager to help you.
Resources for building a private prac-
tice, performing effective inductions,
creating suggestions and treatment
plans can all be found in our forum.
You will also develop lasting friend-
ships with other members, and I per-
sonally answer questions on a daily
basis.
We are excited about the opportu-
nity to host the Dallas Hypnosis Con-
vention this April 7-9 in Dallas, TX,
and hope you will be part of the fun!
See you soon,

work with drug rehab cen-
ters and maintain a private

RKN: You have also be-
come a noted expert in
pain management hypno-
sis. Is it becoming a more
popular treatment?
SS: Yes, for
chronic and post-
procedural pain it is
being recognized
as a great tool that
helps patients who
aren't getting re-
sults with traditional
medical interven-
tions.
RKN: And it's effective?
SS: I would say that over
80% get at least a moder-
ate improvement in their
quality of life.
RKN: Amazing. What did
you have for breakfast this
morning?
SS: I grabbed a blueberry
muffin and a cup of coffee.
RKN: We know nicotine
addiction is often treated
with hypnotherapy, but can
you really treat heroin, co-
caine or alcohol addiction
with hypnosis?
SS: I don't work with her-
oin or cocaine, I work with
people. When we approach
things from that mindset it
sounds much less intimidat-
ing.
Hypnosis is great for mind
-based stress man-
agement, the for-
giveness of self and
o t h e r s , e g o
strengthening, sleep
loss, emotional
identification, and
encouraging self
efficacy. Working
with a treatment
team, those are great tools
to help people looking to
reach and sustain sobriety.
RKN: I wish we had more
time and space, but to learn
more about Scott Sandland
and his methods, come to
the April Dallas Hypnosis
Convention, and be sure to
visit HypnoThoughts.com.
“I don't
work with
heroin or cocaine,
I work
with people.”
~ Scott Sandland
RKN: HypnoThoughts.com
has quickly risen to being the
largest and most active, and,
it's peppered with many di-
verse views and groups,
some who aren't known to
play well with others, yet they
seem to all participate and
get along. What do you at-
tribute this success to?
SS: I think the main reason
is a sincere desire by the
members to communicate
respectfully and actually
share information, rather
than argue with each other.
Added to that is the fact that
the moderators and I don't
delete content very often, so
people know they will be held
accountable for what they
say. I think people on Hypno-
Thoughts think twice before
posting publically because
they know I won't take it
down for them later.
RKN: Let's talk about what
you do with hypnosis.
SS: About 7 years ago I
showed a smart dentist how I
could help her patients with
pain, anxiety and bruxism,
and she hired me. Initially I
was just hoping for referrals,
but the staff at this office
really cares about total pa-
tient treatment, so they see

FREE HYPNOSIS SCRIPT: Reverse Paradox In-
learning something new
by doing - rather than be-
ing in a certain state.
And so, you do not have
to try to be hypnotized.
In fact, I would prefer in
this exercise you do not
go into hypnosis, but
rather just imagine being
hypnotized...”
At his point client begins
to wonder, “but could I…?”
Try a Test:
“Now, even though you
have been imagining hyp-
nosis, try to open your
eyes - finding them stuck
in reality - knowing that
you could open them but
sensing them stucker and
stucker….”
Now immediately break
the trance state…. And
move right into a directive
rapid re-induction…..

Ericksonian hypnosis calls
a “Reversal Technique.”
The client wonders “...if I

dering becomes reality.

FAST FACTS
The University of Wash-ington has found hypno-sis can be effective for over 90% of those trying to quit smoking at 6 month follow-ups.
The Journal of Nursing Scholarship found hypno-sis patients twice as likely to remain smoke-free after two years.
University of Connecticut researchers found hyp-nosis subjects lost more weight than 90% of those using other methods - and kept the weight off! And, that hypnosis can more than double the effects for traditional weight loss approaches.
The Journal of Clinical Hypnosis reports hypno-sis has a 77% success rate for drug addiction treatment.
Two studies from Harvard Medical School show hypnosis signifi-cantly reduces the time it takes to heal following surgery.
SOUND SYSTEMS - IN HYPNOTHERAPY
I use a special sound system during my private practice hypnosis sessions, because it makes hypnosis special
and it makes it easier for the client to detach and become more intimately involved in the process.
There is no faster, more powerful change agent than music; changing how you feel in mere seconds. Peaceful,
soothing sounds, especially when combined with binaural beat tones, can dramatically reduce induction time
and effort, and enhance overall trance depth.
This is a list of the equipment I use in my practice:
• Four K-44 AKG Headphones, plugged into my...
• Prosonic hp-4 headphone amp, which lets me have four headphones
• The amp is plugged into my Mackie 402 4-channel mixer
• And then I play music off a CD player or my computer by plugging it
into the mixer.
• Then I play 50-minute background tracks with music, nature sounds
and binaural theta tones.

Group at HypnoThoughts.com, to help you better understand how and why to
use sound in hypnotherapy.
