Ποτέ µην θερµάνετε τα µεταλλικά µέρη ενός πιολέ για κανένα λόγο . Κάτι τέτο ιο θα προκαλέσε ι ζηµιά στη θερµική επεξεργασία και συνεπώς την αντοχή και δ ιάρκε ια ζωής του εργαλείου .

Χρησ ιµοποι είστε µια λεπτή λίµα χειρός αντί τροχού . Λειάνετε τ ι ς κοφτερές γωνί ες µετά το λιµάρισµα . . Παρόλο που µια υπέρ-κοφτερή λάµα διεισδύει πιο αποτελεσµατικά , φθε ίρεται πιο γρήγορα .

Η ασφάλιση από καραµπίνερ που εί να ι περασµένο από την τρύπα της κεφαλής µπορεί να γίνει µόνο εάν το κεφάλι του πιολέ εί ναι στο ίδ ιο επίπεδο µε την επιφάνε ια του χιον ιού . Εάν το στέλεχος δεν ε ί ναι θαµµένο τελε ίως , τότε δέστε γύρω από το στέλεχος στο επίπεδο του χιον ιού , ιµάντα για να ελαχιστοπο ιήσετε τη δύναµη µοχλού . Ο ιµάντας του καρπού δεν ε ί ναι επαρκώς ισχυρός για να χρησιµοποιηθεί ως τµήµα της αλυσίδας ασφάλισης – µην τον χρησιµοποι είτ ε για ασφάλιση .

Ποτέ µην αφήσετε ένα νοτισµένο πιολέ µέσα σε αδιάβροχο σάκο ή σε υγρό υπόγειο . Πλύνετέ το µε καθαρό νερό , στεγνώστε το σε καθαρό αέρα και αλείψτε το µε προστατευτικό λάδι , σιλικόνη ή γράσο πριν την αποθήκευση . Τα πιολέ Grivel γυαλίζοντα ι στο χέρι (όπως ακριβώς µια υψηλής ποιότητας λεπίδα µαχα ιρ ιού). Η Grivel δεν χρησιµοποι εί αντ ισκορ ιακές ουσίες όπως το χρώµιο και το ν ικέλιο διότι ρυπαίνουν επικί νδυνα το περιβάλλον . Παρόλο που ο χάλυβας που χρησ ιµοποι είται εί ναι παρόµο ιος µε το ανοξείδωτο ατσάλι (το οπο ίο δεν εί ναι κατάλληλο για κεφαλές πιολέ), µην εκπλαγείτε εάν στο πιολέ σας αναπτυχθούν στίγµατα σκουριάς . Η σκουριά εί ναι επιφανειακή και θα εξαφανιστε ί την πρώτη φορά που θα χρησιµοπο ιήσετε το πιολέ σε σκληρό χιόν ι .

Τα πιολέ γενικής ορειβασίας κατασκευάζονται για χρήση σε πάγο και όχι σε βράχο . Μην χώνετε , εφαρµόζοντας τάση ροπής , τη λάµα τους σε σχισµές βράχου .

Μην τα χρησιµοπο ιε ίτε σαν σφυρ ιά για να καρφώνετε καρφιά , παγόβ ιδες ή deadmen είτε µε την κεφαλή είτ ε µε το στέλεχος , µη χρησ ιµοποι είτ ε τη λάµα της κεφαλής σαν µοχλό . Τα πιολέ γεν ικής ορειβασίας δεν σχεδ ιάζονται ούτε κατασκευάζονται για τέτοια χρήση και δεν εί ναι εγγυηµένα για τη χρήση αυτή . Ένα πιολέ δεν µπορεί να εί ναι αιών ιο και µπορεί να φθαρεί µε εντατική χρήση ιδ ια ίτερα µε την κακοµεταχε ίρ ιση . Κάντε του έλεγχο τακτικά , ιδ ιαίτ ερα πριν από µία διαδροµή κατά την οποία θα εξαρτάστε από το εργαλείο αυτό .
