Examples of DR Solutions
ì Onsite Backups Only -‐ No Disaster Recovery Plan – Backup and Pray Method
ì Offsite Tape Storage
ì Offsite Hard Disk Storage
ì Offsite Backups
ì Replica@on of Servers to Coloca@on Facility – High Cost Op@on
ì Virtualiza@on of Servers with Offsite Replica@on

Storage Options in the Cloud
ì NAS – Mul:-‐Tenant
ì SAN – Both Mul:-‐Tenant and Dedicated
ì Storage Server on Bare Metal – Self Managed
ì Cloud Storage (Object Storage) – Low Cost, Cluster Based Flat File System, expandable into the Petabytes. Ideal for archive and long term storage
![Page 33: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051323/5483f4905906b5c1158b46b3/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Traditional Disaster Recovery
ì Duplicate environment
ì CapEx Investment
ì High Cost / Low U@liza@on
![Page 34: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051323/5483f4905906b5c1158b46b3/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
Disaster Recovery to the Cloud
ì Deploy lower cost virtual servers for to meet minimum requirements
ì OpEx model
ì Extend your network into the Cloud Environment for secure replica:on
ì Store Server Images on lower cost storage and only deploy servers in case of a disaster
![Page 35: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051323/5483f4905906b5c1158b46b3/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
Start Small and Grow Over Time
ì Start with sending backups to the cloud
ì Send VMs to the Cloud and Store in Low Cost Cloud Storage
ì Create mul:-‐site environment in the Cloud and u:lize local and global load balancing for “Always On” scenario
ì No mader what op:on you choose to start with, it’s important TO START!
ì Plan your DR strategy now!
![Page 36: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051323/5483f4905906b5c1158b46b3/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
Case Study #1 Company A – Email Hosting Company
ì Scenario: The company needs to provide Exchange backup and
archival services to their customers. Currently, they back up to servers that they manage, those servers contain both ac:ve backups and archives. These servers are housed in the same coloca:on as their Exchange servers. Also, their servers are in need of a refresh in the next year which represents a substan:al cost.
ì Solu@on: Company A decides to that in the short term they will move their Exchange backup and archive files to Object Storage. They will then move their Exchange servers to the Cloud and create a DR site at a separate DC to store their backup images. In case of a disaster, they will spin up Virtual Servers in the Public Cloud.
![Page 37: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051323/5483f4905906b5c1158b46b3/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
Case Study #2 Company B – Digital Advertising Company
ì Scenario: A digital ad company needs to store their growing video and photo library. Some of these files are accessed frequently but others need to be archived for possible future use. There is no system in place to auto-‐archive and is a :me consuming manual process. The company has over 50 TB of data and is growing at about 20 TB per year.
ì Solu@on: By u:lizing Twin Strata’s Cloud Array product the customer’s frequently used data is kept on the caching server giving them rapid access to the needed files and in the background files are moved to Object Storage which is located at a separate DC. This provides both storage and a basic DR solu:on.
