icn exchange
TRANSCRIPT
ImproveCareNow Exchange Create a learning resource that will radically change for the better what
people know about how to implement an effective and reliable care delivery system to treat and manage chronic disease beginning
with pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
Inspirations
“Once you open the possibility
that people are not only using the
web as a platform … but to pool
their efforts, knowledge, and
resources … the possibilities for
what they can create are
astounding (Benkler, 2001)."
“What can we do
to get more kids
into remission
today?”
The ImproveCareNow (ICN) Network has evolved from a small improvement
Collaborative of eight centers working to rapidly improve outcomes for pediatric
inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) to a Network comprised of 63 centers as of
April 2014.
The Network needed a user-friendly, visually appealing, and adaptable “home” for the
many innovative tools that participating centers and their parents and patient partners
develop, adapt, and/or share.
The Challenge
Aspirations
Make it possible for a geographically
dispersed community of clinicians,
scientists, patients, and parents to
pool their knowledge, learn from each
other and improve outcomes.
Assumptions What if there was a place to exchange
ICN tools, processes, stories and
lessons learned?
You can access
the ICN
exchange on
your mobile
device.
Have you signed up?
Have you shared?

Planning the design: Inspired by Pinterest,
the popular social media site.
Doing iterative tests: Site design and
functionality are continually adapted and
refined.
Studying and acting on what we learn
from site metrics and user feedback:
• RCs and nurses are the key consumers
and contributors of site resources.
• Targeted assignments and prompts
increase use.
• Most centers have at least one Exchange
user. Contribution of content varies by
center.
What’s next? Scaling up to meet the needs of a growing Network. Incorporating or connecting with patient and parent partners. Making sure the best resources are the easiest to find.
