DESCRIPTION
The TrustedTM TMR Expander Interface
module resides in the TrustedTM
ControllerChassis and provides the master interfacebetween the Inter-Module Bus (IMB) in theController Chassis and the Expander Bus. TheExpander Bus allows multiple chassis systemsto be implemented using UTP cableconnections whilst maintaining the faulttolerant, high bandwidth IMB capabilities.
The module provides fault containment
for the Expander Bus, the module itselfand the IMB in the Controller Chassis,ensuring that the effects of thesepotential faults are localised and systemavailability maximised. The module isfault tolerant with HardwareImplemented Fault Tolerant (HIFT),Triple Modular Redundant (TMR)architecture. Comprehensivediagnostics, monitoring and testingprovide rapid fault identification. Hotstandby and module sparingconfigurations are supported, allowing
automatic and manual repair strategies.
Communication between the ExpanderInterface and the TMR Processor is viathe IMB on the backplane of theController Chassis. The IMB providesfault tolerance and high bandwidthcommunications between the InterfaceModules and the TMR Processor. Alltransactions are voted, localising faultsto a Fault Containment Region (FCR)within the IMB should they occur.
Communication between the InterfaceModule and the TMR ExpanderProcessor in the Expander Chassis isvia the Expander Bus. The ExpanderBus is triplicated, point-to-pointarchitecture. Each channel of theExpander Bus comprises separatecommand and response media. Votingis provided at the Expander BusInterface to ensure that cable faults aretolerated, and the remainder of theExpander Processor operates in a fullytriplicated mode, even in case of cablefaults occurring.
The TMR Expander Interface Modulederives its internal voltages from dualredundant +24V dc power supplied viathe module connector from theTrusted
TM Controller Chassisbackplane. Each FCR derives therequired supplies independently.
Non-critical monitoring and modulestatus display functions (front panelLEDs) are also provided.
