At many institutions budget deficits have mushroomed following sudden declines in endowment values, deep cuts in education funding and limits on tuition increases.Additionally, competition in the global job market is making new programs, new training and new models of instruction essential in order for students to earn gainful employment after graduation. And amidst a fluctuating student population, universities are harnessing new technologies, such as e‐learning, as a way to reach even more students. These pressures can and do place core academic missions of teaching, research and outreach at risk...

A recent example of our cost efficiency work is the capital construction management project for the Texas A&M University System, which generated $ 9.4 million in first year savings. We did that by:• Eliminating unnecessary or redundant activities in their construction closeout process 

and streamlining those that were necessary.• Measuring factors such as time, cost, errors, and volume to identify inefficient processes 

and redesign them for major cost savings and performance improvement.• Analyzing their cost structures, defining clear cost‐cutting targets, and prioritizing cash‐

generating activities.

Lean is one way universities and colleges can greatly improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Our capabilities support clients in all phases of their lean programs, from small pilot tests to ambitious, institutional transformation programs. Our primary areas of focus include:• Lean Strategy. • Program Design and Implementation. • Change Management and Knowledge Transfer.

A great example of our lean services is the Shared Service Center project for the University of North Texas System, where we implemented a lean six sigma program that resulted in significantly improved HR, Payment and Purchasing processes that had far fewer errors, ran faster and greatly improved customer satisfaction. We did that by:• Training a core team from the shared service center in basic lean six sigma tools, 

techniques and approaches.• Improving a total of 20 processes.• Getting buy‐in and behavioral change at all levels of the shared service center. • And finally by transferring our capabilities and project‐management skills to the shared 

service center so that they could continue to implement lean six sigma after we left.

A great example of our organization design services is the Student Affairs project for the University of Texas Health Science Center‐ San Antonio, where we led the transformation of the division and its components. The transformation resulted in a flatter organization with less bureaucracy, greatly improved services, measurable improvements in faculty and student satisfaction and $ 1.4 million in first year savings. We did that by:• Using our suite of tools to effectively identify and assess spans of control and excess 

layers to pinpoint opportunities for reducing complexity.• Leveraging analysis to determine root causes of issues so that our proposed solutions 

solved the right problems.• Implementing an organizational capability to create and execute ambitious and 

sustainable change.

Those are just a few examples of what we do and how we do it. Depending upon your needs, we can deliver our expertise to your institutions in either a project or a workshop, and as ICUT members you will receive a discount for our services. We’re still working out the details of a consortium agreement with Donna, but the discounting could work like this…

If you have a project that you’d like us to take on, such as an assessment or designing an organization, our project teams are configured according to the project scope and we charge a monthly run rate for that team. The cost for the team depends upon the project scope. As an ICUT member you would receive a 10% discount from our standard monthly run rate.

The Balanced scorecard and Business Process Analysis are 2 of the more popular workshops that we offer. These two‐day workshops will teach participants how to use the tools and techniques needed to create a balanced scorecard for their institution or conduct process analysis in order to improve processes. We are considering offering your institutions a 20% discount from our participant rate.
