Drawesome! This elective will be conducted using both digital and traditional media. This class is designed to help you build up your visualising skills as well as pushing them higher to help you get closer to being a drawing master.

Students will work for a ctitious client providing them with a set of design solutions (visually of course). These design solutions will cover environments, props, vehicles, and characters. Students will learn techniques that will them visualise not only traditional design solutions for products, but also creating concise visual narratives for scenarios.

Some of the topics we will cover in this class:• Marker techniques for quick environment sketches • Marker techniques for vehicle and props • Combining digital modeling and marker drawings for visual outcomes• Figure/character drawings • Proportion and scale for objects• The importance of balancing line weights and value

This is a practical elective on drawing, so if you want to get better at it, or simply refreshing and maintaining your drawing skills, this will be the elective for you. This will also probably be the only class where you are not required to write anything.

This class will be taught by Charles Lin. He has a B.Des in Industrial Design and a MAA in Design. He specialises in concept art for entertainment.

OBJECT PARASITE

Lecturer: Scott MitchellObject parasite examines the field of object use through an investigation of alternative narratives of use. Students will develop unconventional control interfaces ('parasitical appendages') for existing objects that disrupt the object’s 'normal' operation and present parallel fictions of use. These 'fictions' will be made real through the construction of functioning devices based on the Arduino microprocessor. Object parasite challenges conventional understandings of 'scripted use' that positions the user as a passive consumer of design.

This elective will be of interest to students considering the Interactive Design stream and those wanting to develop a working understand-ing of the Arduino prototyping environment - it should also interest anyone who likes messing with stuff. While the elective's aim is to produce working interfaces it also presents students with an opportunity to consider the complex field of object use and the diverse paths consumers take through this field.

Object Parasite adopts a hands-on approach were students develop self-directed projects within a workshop environment. Students will develop an understanding of:- Arduino development environment- basic electronics- Application Programming Interfaces (API's)

and hardware hacking- cultural analysis and critical reflection on the

role of the consumer in contemporary society- speculative/fictional/critical design- self-directed research
