Paediatric Special Considerations

For Paediatric Patients ensure all relevant information is documented such as:

• Outputs e.g. weighted nappies, nappy count

• Output Descriptions e.g. stool description, emesis desription, etc.

• Breastfeeding intake should documented using Duration of feed

• For IV Infusions – to record the Machine total and Burette level right click on the

documented infused volume and Add comment

• Circulating blood volume (see below)

Documenting Circulating Blood Volume (Paediatrics)

It is recommended that Circulating Blood Volume is documented once every 12

hours (midday, midnight) to ensure the information is visible within the Fluid

Balance chart.

1. Navigate to Interactive View.

2. In Interactive View click on the Fluid Balance band.

Documenting Continuous Bladder Irrigation Volumes

When documenting CBI, it is important that both Intake and Output parameters

are recorded, and urine output is manually calculated.

E.g. Patient has received 1000ml bag of irrigation and 1500ml of output is

measured via Urinary Catheter. 1000ml needs to be documented in both CBI

Intake and Output fields.

The 1500ml output therefore consists of 1000ml irrigation out + 500ml urine.

To access CBI reference text, click on the blue link and review the

reference text in the pop-up window.
