Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships Call 2016 – Expression of Interest The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships Call for 2016 is currently open and will close on 14 th September 2016. The IF aims at: enhancing the creative and innovative potential of Experienced Researchers who wish to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition through advanced training, international and intersectoral mobility. Individual Fellowships thus provide opportunities to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research in a European context (EU Member States and Associated Countries) or outside Europe. This scheme particularly supports the return and reintegration of researchers from outside Europe who have previously worked here. It also develops or helps to restart the careers of individual researchers that show great potential, considering their experience. Support is foreseen for individual, trans-national fellowships awarded to the best or most promising researchers for employment in EU Member States or Associated Countries, based on an application made jointly by the researcher and host organisation in the academic or non-academic sectors. 1 This action provides financial support for individual Experienced Researchers who wish to work in host organisations established in EU Member States (MS) or Associated Countries (AC). The Global Fellowships start with a significant period spent at a partner organisation located outside of Europe and conclude with a mandatory return phase in Europe. A description of the types of fellowship and the eligibility conditions are available at http://www.iua.ie/irish-marie-curie- office/funding-calls/individual-fellowships/ The Irish Marie Skłodowska-Curie Office @IUA is offering Irish research performing organisations the opportunity to advertise themselves as potential host organisations for IF 2016. To avail of this opportunity, please complete this expression of interest form below. This form will be hosted on a dedicated web-page on www.iua/ie/mariecurie which will be advertised worldwide using 1 MSCA Work Programme 2014-2015

Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie ActionsIndividual Fellowships Call 2016 – Expression of Interest

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships Call for 2016 is currently open and will close on 14th September 2016.

Support is foreseen for individual, trans-national fellowships awarded to the best or most promising researchers for employment in EU Member States or Associated Countries, based on an application made jointly by the researcher and host organisation in the academic or non-academic sectors .1

This action provides financial support for individual Experienced Researchers who wish to work in host organisations established in EU Member States (MS) or Associated Countries (AC). The Global Fellowships start with a significant period spent at a partner organisation located outside of Europe and conclude with a mandatory return phase in Europe.

A description of the types of fellowship and the eligibility conditions are available at http://www.iua.ie/irish-marie-curie-office/funding-calls/individual-fellowships/

The Irish Marie Skłodowska-Curie Office @IUA is offering Irish research performing organisations the opportunity to advertise themselves as potential host organisations for IF 2016. To avail of this opportunity, please complete this expression of interest form below. This form will be hosted on a dedicated web-page on www.iua/ie/mariecurie which will be advertised worldwide using social media and the Net4Mobility network of MSCA National Contact Points around the world. The form can be completed centrally by the organisation or by an individual faculty/department/school/ centre.

Please note that expressions of interest will go directly to your organisation and not via the Irish Marie Skłodowska-Curie Office @IUA.

Short Description of the Organisation and the Faculty/Dept./School/Centre

The Materials & Surface Science Institute (MSSI), established at the University of Limerick in 1998, is a centre of excellence generating state-of-the-art fundamental research on topics of industrial significance in the fields of surface science and materials. The Institute houses a multidisciplinary team of scientists (chemistry, materials science, physics and biochemistry) and engineers (mechanical, aeronautical, biomedical, manufacturing and electronic) who undertake research in the design, synthesis, processing, characterisation and modelling of materials. MSSI expertise covers the full range of materials, supported by state of the art infrastructure and facilities. Currently, MSSI has 47 PIs supervising over 139 PhD students and 57 post-doctoral researchers.MSSI’s priority research themes are 1) Biomedical Engineering & Biomaterials; 2) Composite Materials; 3) Pharmaceutical Materials and 4) Materials for Energy & Environment. In addition, MSSI hosts the following

Short Description of the Research Project/Topic

Applicants may develop a proposal related to MSSI’s priority research themes and/or current research activity within the Research Centres and programmes hosted at MSSI, described above. The University requests that intending applicants identify a potential supervisor before submitting an application. Please see www.ul.ie/mssi/people for details of the Principal Investigators affiliated with MSSI, and their current research interests.

Expertise required by the applicant

Applicants should meet the minimum entry requirements for Research Postgraduate Programme set by the University. These are available at www.ul.ie/graduateschool/entry-requirements.

Career development support offered to fellows

Example (please edit to your own requirements):The postdoctoral researchers will have the opportunity to join one of the research groups at the Institute and will follow an individual research project under the supervision and mentoring of an internationally renowned group leader in a stimulating and multidisciplinary scientific environment.Researchers will have access to the Institute’s state-of the-art scientific facilities, including high-resolution electron microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis and metrology suites, and computational modelling facilities. All researchers based at MSSI are allocated dedicated laboratory and desk space within a modern, purpose built building, with additional laboratory and office space which opened in Summer 2015.In addition, they will have access to the university’s researcher development programmes, training and career planning services in order to enhance their own career progression.

Application procedure In the first instance, potential applicants should supply a
