Chapter 7 – Requirements Analysis & Design DefinitionRefer to BACCM™
4
7.1 Specify and Model Requirements• The purpose of Specify and Model
Requirements is to analyze, synthesize, and refine elicitation results into requirements and designs.
• Focus on understanding need à requirements• Focus on solution à design• What are the two modeling formats?
– What are the model categories?
5
7.2 Verify Requirements• To ensure that requirements and designs
specifications and models meet quality standards
• What are some characteristics of requirements and design quality?
6
7.3 Validate Requirements• To ensure that all requirements and designs align to
the business requirements and support the delivery of needed value.
• Identify assumptions – manage associated risks• Define measurable evaluation criteria – what does this
mean?• Evaluate Alignment with Solution Scope - When
requirements do not align, either the future state must be re-evaluated and the solution scope changed, or the requirement removed from the solution scope
7
7.4 Define Requirements Architecture• To ensure that the requirements collectively
support one another to fully achieve the objectives
• Discuss inputs (section 7.4.3)
8
7.5 Define Design Options• To define the solution approach, identify
opportunities to improve the business, allocate requirements across solution components, and represent design options that achieve the desired future state
• What are some solution approaches?
9
7.6 Analyze Potential Value and Recommend Solution• To estimate the potential value for each
design option and to establish which one is most appropriate to meet the enterprise’s requirements
• Discuss elements (7.6.4)
10
Chapter 8 Solution EvaluationRefer to BACCM™
11
8.1 Measure Solution Performance• To define performance measures and use the
data collected to evaluate the effectiveness of a solution
• Discuss techniques (8.1.6)
12
8.2 Analyze Performance Measures• To provide insights into the performance of a
solution• If the measures are not sufficient to help
stakeholders determine solution value, business analysts either collect more measurements or treat the lack of measures as a solution risk
13
8.3 Assess Solution Limitations• To determine the factors internal to the
solution that restrict the full realization of value
• Discuss elements (8.3.4)
14
8.4 Assess Enterprise Limitations• To determine how factors external to the
solution are restricting value realization• How would culture be a limitation?
15
8.5 Recommend Actions to Increase Solution Value• To understand the factors that create
differences between potential value and actual value, and to recommend a course of action to align them
• What is an example of an “Eliminate Redundancy” action?
16
