IIDA TX OK CHAPTER 13TH ANNUAL STUDENT CONFERENCE: February 21-22

The  IIDA  TX  OK  Chapter  hosts  three  annual  Chapter  events  each  

year:  Student  Conference,  METROCON  +  our  Annual  Awards  Gala,  and  Leaders  Breakfast.  The  13th  annual  Student  Conference  started  2013  with  a  bang,  as  120  students  from  across  our  Chapter  and  beyond  traveled  to  Houston,  

Texas  for  a  2-­‐day  event!    

Special  thanks  to  our  first  IIDA  Texas  Oklahoma  Student  Conference  Event  Underwriter,  HAWORTH!  

 

Peter  Perlman  Business  Development  Director  [email protected]  Peter  has  been  with  Haworth  Inc.  for  18  years.  Peter  received  his  undergraduate  business  degree  from  The  University  of  Southern  California  in  Los  Angeles  and  an  MBA  from  Pepperdine  University  in  Malibu,  California.  Peter  began  his  career  as  the  Director  of  Haworth  Los  Angeles.  Two  years  later  he  was  promoted  to  Director  of  Asia  Pacific  running  Haworth’s  Asia  operations  for  16  years.  Peter  left  Haworth  for  a  9  year  period  to  run  the  Staples  APAC  operations  based  in  Hong  Kong.  Peter  rejoined  Haworth  as  the  Director  of  the  Houston  market  in  2012.    

Lisa  A.  Pape,  LEED  AP  Senior  Business  Development  Manager  [email protected]  Lisa  Pape  has  over  12  years  experience  in  Architectural  and  Contract  Sales  in  the  commercial  interiors  industry.  She  holds  a  BBA  in  Marketing  and  is  a  LEED  accredited  professional.  She  is  a  certified  instructor  for  the  BIFMA  level  certification  program  regarding  sustainability  for  systems  furniture  and  their  manufacturers.  

Amy  Ritchmond    Senior  Architecture  &  Design  Market  Manager  [email protected]  Amy  Ritchmond  has  been  the  Senior  A&D  Market  Manager  for  Haworth,  Inc.  since  2007.  She  is  responsible  for  A&D  sales  efforts  in  the  Houston  Area,  encompassing  Austin  and  San  Antonio.  In  2011  Amy  was  the  only  A&D  Market  Manager  to  receive  a  Haworth  Pinnacle  award.  Amy  attended  Bill  Blass  founded  school  O’More  College  of  Design  in  Tennessee  where  she  received  an  academic  scholarship.  She  holds  a  Bachelor  of  Science  degree  in  Interior  Design  from  Lamar  University.    Danna  Sprawls  Senior  Architecture  &  Design  Market  Manager  [email protected]  Danna  Sprawls  is  a  Senior  Architecture  &  Design  Market  Manager  with  Haworth,  Inc  and  has  over  17  years  experience  in  the  contract  furniture  industry.  She  is  based  in  Dallas  and  markets  product  information  and  secures  new  business  with  A&D  clients  in  the  Dallas/Fort  Worth  Metroplex,  North  Texas,  Arkansas  and  Tennessee.  Danna  holds  a  bachelor  of  Interior  Design  from  Texas  Tech  University  and  is  a  Registered  Interior  Designer  in  the  State  of  Texas.    Ursula  Burns  Showroom  Manager  [email protected]  Ursula  has  been  the  Haworth  Showroom  Manager  for  over  14  years  and  truly  enjoys  her  job  to  the  fullest.  She  obtained  her  Associates  Degree  in  Business  Administration  from  Houston  Community  College.  Ursula  assists  Amy  Ritchmond  with  the  A&D  community  needs  and  helps  plan  and  facilitate  large  events  for  clients.  In  2011,  she  was  the  recipient  of  the  Dick  Haworth  Value  Award  in  her  organization,  which  is  awarded  amongst  7,000  employees.  Ursula  is  very  encouraging  in  any  atmosphere.

CNTD: STUDENT CONFERENCE- DESIGN CHARRETTE

The  Design  Charrette  allows  four  of  the  top  students  from  each  Campus  Center  to  participate  in  a  four-­‐hour  design  competition  administered  by  a  regional  design  firm.  Students  were  chosen  to  participate  based  on  professor  recommendation,  and  were  senior  level  student  members  of  IIDA.    Student  Design  Charrette  Participating  Universities:  The  Art  Institute  Houston  Texas  Tech  University  University  of  North  Texas  University  of  Texas  at  Arlington  University  of  Texas  at  San  Antonio  Baylor  University  Texas  State  University  Stephen  F.  Austin  University  of  Oklahoma  Oklahoma  State  University  Louisiana  State  University      Ziegler  Cooper  provided  a  full  program,  client  +  mission,  floorplans,  and  guidelines  for  a  four  hour  Design  Charrette.  Jim  Hanlin,  Janet  Rogers,  and  Lindsey  Kowalkowski  of  Ziegler  Cooper,  as  well  as  Meghan  Simicek  from  Kirksey,  also  spent  their  morning  with  the  students,  giving  feedback  and  working  through  the  development  process.  Here’s  a  peek  at  the  Charrette  problem  and  how  we  spent  our  morning!    “Expressing  Client  Mission  and  Values  through  Design”  Client:  Dress  for  Success  Program:  Utilize  the  site  plan  and  floor  plan  provided  to  design  an  indoor  space  that  meets  the  program  requirements  and  an  outdoor  space  that  expresses  the  client  mission  and  educates  the  local  community.    Provide  a  written  design  concept  for  your  solution  and  provide  the  necessary  sketches,  perspectives,  finishes  and  materials  to  convey  your  concept.  Your  design  must  include  space  plans  for  both  the  interior  and  exterior  spaces.  All  methods  that  students  chose  to  communicate  their  design  were  required  to  fit  on  a  24”  x  36”  board  to  be  judged  and  displayed  at  the  end  of  the  charrette.      Charrette  Coordinator:  Meghan  Simecek,  Kirksey    Charrette  Administrator:  Ziegler  Cooper  Judges:                                            Amy  Ritchmond  -­‐  Haworth  (Event  Underwriter)       Stephanie  Fallon  -­‐  FK  P  Architects  (IIDA  TX  OK  Chapter  Student  Conference  Co-­‐Chair)       Paul  LaBrant  -­‐  Parkhill  Smith  &  Cooper  (IIDA  TX  OK  Chapter  President)       Karina  Garza  -­‐  Insite  Architects  (IIDA  TX  OK  Chapter  VP  of  Campus  Centers)       Melinda  Lyon  -­‐  Oklahoma  State  University  (IIDA  TX  OK  Director  of  Education)       Toni  Cosper  (Previous  Charrette  Winner)
