Exports from South Tyrol have been a clear success story since records began. Every fifth euro is now earned
from exports. Compared to the rest of Italy, owing to the small average size of each enterprise, South Tyrol’s
export figures lie somewhere in the middle, but the trend is clearly upwards.

EOS – Export Organization South Tyrol, accompanies
South Tyrolean businesses on their way towards new cli-
ents and markets. In addition to providing support for the
initiation of export activities, EOS helps to consolidate the
presence of local companies on international markets. An-
other important aim of EOS is to increase the image and
brand awareness of South Tyrolean quality products both
at home and abroad.
With the creation of the EOS – Export Organization South
Tyrol in 2006, our region has managed to unite forces in
the regional export sector by merging three different in-
stitutions and creating a single organization to promote
the international expansion of local businesses and sales
world-wide.
Supporting the activities and initiatives of EOS is a key
aim of the South Tyrolean regional government. Our com-
mon goal is to lay the foundations for local businesses to
perform with excellence on international markets when it
comes to selling high-quality products and services.

Our aim is to promote the internationalisation of local
businesses, on the one hand increasing export levels while
on the other augment the number of enterprises actually
exporting.
This is achieved through active export promotion, rec-
ognition and use of new trends and market opportuni-
ties, and through a wide range of marketing approaches
intended to strengthen the image, profile and sales
of South Tyrolean specialities. The EOS functions as
a network between South Tyrolean business, politics,
the economy and the media at home and abroad. We
cooperate closely with local businesses and also promote
cooperation between enterprises in order to generate
synergies by means of targeted cooperation measures
and joint initiatives.
Our clients benefit from our many years of experience,
our international network of contacts and our exemplary
project support services. Your business will earn time and
money with the aid of our efficient International Trade

South Tyrolean exports are witnessing positive developments, with the number of destination countries for exports constantly on the rise. The main export markets
are the German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), which together represent nearly half of all exports from South Tyrol. (2011 figures)
In the sector of International Trade Support, we promote the internationalization
of South Tyrolean companies by providing a variety of services in order to support
your market entry as well as the exploration and consolidation of markets. Direct
contact with companies is of key importance to us.

We advise
You benefit in three ways from the experience of our
staff and experts: at the Export Help Desk we have time
for detailed discussion of your project; company visits are
an opportunity for consultation on the premises of your
enterprise; while on our adviser days we invite our foreign
partners for you to meet and discuss your concerns face-
to-face.
We inform
Information forms the building blocks for the decisions on
which your success depends! We therefore research infor-
mation for you on companies, markets and sectors from
secondary sources. Access to professional databases and
market research institutes makes it easier of us to look for
sound, concrete information that can help you make the
right export decisions.
We support
A series of concrete projects and services will support you
on the way to discovering international markets: seminars,
trade fairs, export coaches, visits for entrepreneurs and
delegations, sales promotion actions and individual export
projects will all help you internationalise your business.

Our aims
Our aim is to ensure sustainable value creation by means
of the production of quality foodstuffs and to guarantee a
reasonable income for the region’s many small- and medi-
um-sized enterprises. We work in close cooperation with
trade associations, business groups and other partners.
Quality Products
South Tyrolean Quality Products from the farm produce
and foodstuffs sectors are marketed with the European
Designation of Origin and the South Tyrol Quality Mark.
Our activities focus on consolidating market share in
traditional markets where both the image and profile of
South Tyrolean products are high. But even in new mar-
kets more and more promotions being carried out in con-
junction with sales.
Sector-specific measures
Apart from sector-specific measures, we also realize
activities and cooperation work covering a range of
products, coordinating and implementing EU joint cam-
paigns and European promotional programmes.

Its geographical location and characteristics mean that
South Tyrol has long been a trader and exporter of agri-
cultural products. Less traditional but no less successful,
the export of industrial and technological products is con-
stantly gaining strength.
The range of products exported from South Tyrol has in
fact changed considerably over the years.
Products such as computing, electrical and precision
equipment have all experienced large increases in export
volume. Substantial growth rates can also be seen in the
areas of metals and metal products, mechanical engineer-
ing and vehicle components.
More and more enterprises are discovering niches for
themselves through greater specialisation, with their high
quality ensuring they stand out against the international
competition.
In such sectors as medical and dental technology, custom
interior design, dietary products, high-tech equipment or
aerial ropeways and winter technologies, South Tyrol’s top
companies are among the world’s leading manufacturers
and enterprises.
Gone are the days when South Tyrol exported simply food and wine.
From vehicle components to plant protection agents, dietary products
to precision equipment, there is enormous diversity in the range of
products on offer.

Apples were, together with wine, one of South Tyrol’s first
exports. From the beginning of the 19th century, this pre-
cious fruit was sent northwards by horse and on foot. Such
transport was a laborious and lengthy affair.
The building of the railway over the Brenner Pass in
1867 made the transport of goods considerably easier.
South Tyrolean apples thus reached the imperial courts
of Vienna, Berlin and St. Petersburg. The draining of the
marshlands in the Etsch Valley towards the end of the
19th century made large areas along the river available
for the further cultivation of apples. This truly fruitful
period saw the establishment of the first fruit-growing
cooperatives in the Burggrafenamt, where apples are still
the main export item.

Main export sectors
South Tyrolean businesses export a wide range of different products, with the shares of the individual export sectors are fairly equal.
A differentiated, high-quality palette of goods makes exports a strong pillar of the South Tyrolean economy, ensuring that it has been
able to withstand the fluctuations seen on the world markets in relatively good shape. (2011 figures)
