dear friends of Roeckl,

Of the many fashionable looks around at the moment we were inspired by one par ticularly beautiful

theme for the design of our spring/summer collection:

Modern PoetryWhat we love so much about this evocative mot to is its connection to things that move and af fect

us. Things that convey authentic, very personal emotions. Af ter all, for 175 years we have been

designing and making items that become very dear to our customers’ hear ts. That become close

companions in their everyday lives. Whether it be sophisticated gloves, elegant bags or elaborately

finished, fashionable silk scarves... every product we make is the result of pure handcraf tsmanship

and high-quality materials with an outstanding, sensuous feel. One that can be seen and felt –

which is something that is very impor tant to me personally.

Allow yourself to be inspired by our spring 2015 collection in the same way that we took our

inspiration from “Modern Poetry”. Experience seductively exotic, sof tly formed, sometimes only

insinuated floral pat terns that stimulate the imagination – playful and feminine, in the colour

combinations sof t pink to warm red. Discover the cooler nuances of a light cloudy sky, alternating

with summery blue tones. Or perhaps you would prefer the deep, tropical agave green, which can

be casually combined with laid-back colours like “linen” or “saddle brown”?

Browse our new, exciting and beautiful collection and you will see the pleasure that we also found

EvERy glOvE By ROEckl is uniquE.

Valuable treasures are revealed upon entering Roeckl’s leather warehouse: from piles of

hair sheep leather, peccary and deerskin down to rarities like ostrich leather or eel and

python skins as far as the eye can see.

The most important glove manufacturing techniques were developed in the 8th century

in France and are still used by Roeckl today:

To start with, the skin is set, and then leather is smoothed out with a knife in order to

achieve a consistent thickness. The cut that follows requires full body strength:

the leather is stretched in length and width, into so-called table-cut panels, and

then cut into a square from which the correct size is punched out.

This controlled stretching results in the perfect fit.

The gloves are assembled from up to 24 individual parts and, depending on the model,

hand-sewn with over 2000 stitches. A glove by Roeckl sits like a second skin,

of fers complete freedom of movement and touch-sensitive fingertips, as well as providing

optimum protection from the cold.

Every scarf is a work of art and the result of a detailed production process:

from the drawing to the colour composition down to the elaborate silk-screen printing

and rolling by hand.

Using the silkscreen printing procedure, every colour is mixed by hand, measured out and

individually applied by hand, layer by layer, in Como, Italy. The first printing stage creates

the outline of the pattern, followed by the individual colours, in which every colour is

applied one shade at a time. After each print, the scarf must be completely dry before the

silk can be fixed and finished. The edges are then carefully hemmed by hand, i.e. rolled.

Dozens of manual steps, taking many hours in total and carried out using archaic-looking

instruments and tools, are made to turn precious leather into lit tle pieces of art. The result:

each bag is unique and bears its own individual hallmarks.

The bags, which are made from up to 44 individual parts, convey the Roeckl bag makers’

passion for the highest craftsmanship standards.

To be precise, two types of specialist work at Roeckl: the cutter and the master bag

craftsman. As leather is very much a living material, the cutting procedure must be carried

out by someone with a lot of experience who can correctly assess the properties of each

hide. Firm leather can shrink in high humidity and, under certain circumstances, soft

leather tends to slacken, or stretch. Once the hide has been cut, the craftsmen have to

adapt each further step to the leather’s characteristics – as only then can the perfect fit

and the perfect seam be guaranteed, resulting in the creation of a lifelong favourite item.
