Imagine. Create. Exceed.

*MHSS is a subsidiary of Mapúa Institute of Technology, the biggest engineering school in the Philippines.

Launched in 2006, Malayan High School of Science has always put premium in Science, Mathematics, and Technology education. Its mission is to mold students to have an analytical mind and a creative, innovative spirit; to be aware of the social, environmental, and global issues; and to love country and humanity.

Though very young, MHSS, through its students, has garnered a number of awards and prizes in inter-scholastic competitions in science, math, and even sports, a reflection in part of the commitment and competence of the school’s faculty and administration. The school espouses discipline, excellence, commitment, integrity, and responsibility as its core values.

ABOUT MHSS

Now on its first decade of existence, Malayan High School of Science has continued improving the quality of its science-focused education by benchmarking its curriculum and practices against international standards. Being a wholly owned subsidiary of Mapúa Institute of Technology, MHSS has maintained a same first-rate education standard as that of its mother school.

Distinctions in academics and sports

MHSS students earned awards in academics and sports competitions both in the national and internation scenes. For one, Grade 8 student Audrey Tan won in two math international competitions - one in September and another in November, while two Malayan students won as second runner-up in the sumobot category of the 4th Annual Philippine Roboton held last October. Malayans are also making it big in the world of sports as the Red Robins ranked as second runner-up in the NCAA basketball championships last October.

Robotics in curriculum

Robotics has been integrated in all Mathematics, Science, and Technology subjects in grade levels 7 to 10 to prepare students for the anticipated demand of people equipped with skills in this particular field.

As a matter of fact, MHSS students have made a mark in various robotics competitions – Best Rookie in the Tagising Robotics 2013 of DOST, and gold medalists in the Youth Math Science and Technology Festival 2014 of the Philippine Science High School.

Internet of Things

Following Mapúa’s lead, Malayan High School of Science is on the verge of fully adopting the concept of Internet of Things (IoT), a convergence of smart things connected through the internet enabling them to communicate with one another for the purpose of performing tasks with ease. This technology is expected to boom in the coming years, hence the desire of the school to focus on this niche, which it will offer to its Grade 12 STEM students starting in 2017.

Library services

MHSS’ library, the learning resource center, houses a wide array of books and periodicals. It also has two digital platforms: Turnitin, an originality checking platform and online grading solutions for use of instructors and students; and PressReader, a gateway of popular local and foreign newspapers and magazines. Read news and feature stories on your tablets and smartphones!
