Introduction

As the world’s largest professional association dedicated to engineers and other technology professionals, advancing excellence in technical innovation and communication for the benefit of humanity is one of our core values. We are one of the world’s largest publishers of technical and scientific materials, with more than four million technical documents in print.

Our technical communications training program creates participant awareness that conveying clear technical information is substantially different from other forms of communication; it requires a higher degree of clarity and precision. Though the underlying theory is similar to other forms of communication, these concepts must be adapted and contextualized to the technologies and industry sectors represented by the attendees of a given workshop.

Course materials have been developed by an internationally recognized expert in the field of technical communications and exhaustively peer reviewed by an international team of both technical and communications specialists. Our workshops are small and highly interactive,

46

Page 47: IMC Institute's Training Schedule Q2 2014

never onesizefitsall. Workshop facilitators—all native or nearnative English speakers—have been specially selected and trained to teach these materials in a highly engaging, interactive format that addresses real world communications issues using classroom activities drawn from the students’ own work lives.

Developing superior communications skills is an ongoing process; therefore, the IEEE technical communications programs continue to support learners long after the classroom experience has been successfully completed. All participants in these workshops receive access to a virtual communications classroom online, a place where they can work with interactive lessons and share in a larger online community of communications professionals.

Duration : 2 Days ( 09.0016.00 )

Training Venue: : AKI, 34th Floor, Interchange Building (Asoke Road and Sukhumvit Road Intersection) (BTS Asoke Exit 3 and MRT Sukhumvit Exit 2 ) >> See Map

Key benefits for the engineering and technical professional

Real world examples featuring Western technical contexts are used; thus, immediate application of skills in the local workplace will be greatly enhanced.

Workshops recognize and perfectly supplement earlier styles and content components of tertiary technical education on the part of attendees, and will be especially beneficial for those whose tertiary education did not place much emphasis on professional communications skills.

Especially beneficial to engineering and technical professionals who may have deep experience as a technical expert but who may be new to management and the increased communication skills demanded as part of the position requirements.

Course objectives are based on criteria set forth by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the largest accreditation body for engineering education in the world.

Upon completion, engineering and technology professionals will be able to immediately implement new modes of communication to better represent themselves, their ideas, and their companies in local or international contexts.

What is different about our course compared to others?

While other technical communication and presentation seminars and workshops tend to dwell upon forms and formatting – Precision Technical Writing and Presentation Workshops encompass not only form, but also functional, usability considerations—the essence of effective Western technical communication. In a time when East is continually meeting West in conveying scientific and technical information to multicultural and multilateral audiences, our workshops find common ground among the participants and builds upon it. Our workshops succeed in their objectives through the energy and informed expertise of qualified facilitators and the embedded foundations of knowledge and experience provided by IEEE and Texas A&M University at Qatar.

Designed by an American university faculty member with realworld as well as classroom experience, and peerreviewed by technical and communications leaders from around the IEEE, these courses bring together field research in current industry trends and contemporary teaching practices used in the United States and internationally. During the two days of the workshop, attendees learn not only the expected Western standards of technical communication, but, more importantly, they learn how to think through the guiding factors behind truly usable technical communication. Participants will learn the nuances of form and functional intersections in technical communication interactions; in short, they will learn how to put technical information into dynamic action.

While this course is designed to be useful for all people who are preparing increasing numbers

48

Page 49: IMC Institute's Training Schedule Q2 2014

of technical documents and presentations, the nonnative English speaker is particularly benefitted by the course design of our workshops. The content and pacing of the workshops are designed and tested to be accessible and practical for intermediate or higher levels of English. The focus goes beyond grammatical and form issues to help attendees learn how to think in English and better predict and meet international expectations for scientific and technical communication and presentations.

SOA Architect Workshop Certification

Certified SOA Architect: A Certified SOA Architect has demonstrated proficiency in the mechanics of SOA through the physical design of serviceoriented technology architectures, serviceoriented solutions, and related infrastructure. To be considered an expert in this field requires a solid understanding of the serviceorientation design paradigm including all related design principles and the effects of their application. Fundamental SOA concepts and terminology need to become second nature to the SOA Architect and must be further supplemented with exposure to relevant SOA technologies. The different forms of serviceoriented technology must also be fully understood, including the dependencies that exist between architectural levels. SOAcertified architects will need to be prepared for a variety of design challenges and therefore must be proficient with the use of industry design patterns and serviceoriented design processes. They must furthermore have an appreciation of how service design fits into the overall SOA project delivery lifecycle and how design approaches and techniques may ultimately affect service governance. Duration : 5 Days (9:00 16:00) Fee : 39,000 Baht exclude VAT [Early Bird 37,000 Baht](Fee includes Course Material + Coffee Break and Lunch)
