Canada's Immigration Policies

The Canadian immigration policy is based on three main objectives:Toreunite families, to fulfill our International obligations and humanitarian

efforts, and build a stronger, and viable economy in all regions ofCanada. These objectives represent the three major types of

immigrants that come to Canada, Family Class Immigrants (related toqualifying immigrant that is in or immigrating to Canada), refugees, andeconomical class immigrants (admitted on the basis of skill, capital and

labour-market requirements).

There are currently nine categories that you canapply to immigrate to Canada.

Skilled workers and professionals

"Federal skilled workers (FSW) are selected as permanent residents based ontheir education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French, and othercriteria that have been shown to help them become economically established inCanada." - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp

Federal skills or trade program

"The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who want to becomepermanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.To apply, youmust have work experience in a specific skilled trade and meet several otherrequirements." - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/trades/index.asp

Quebec-selected skilled workers

"Under the Canada-Quebec Accord, Quebec establishes its ownimmigration requirements and selects immigrants who will adapt to livingin Quebec.

Canadian experience class

"After you have lived in Canada for some time, you may have good English or French skills, theright kind of skilled work experience, and be used to Canadian society. The CanadianExperience Class (CEC) was created to help people like this take part in the Canadianeconomy.

"The Business Immigration Program seeks to attract experienced business people toCanada who will support the development of a strong and prosperous Canadianeconomy.

Family sponsorship

"If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsoryour spouse, conjugal or common-law partner, dependent child (including adoptedchild) or other eligible relative to become a permanent resident under the FamilyClass (FC). If your family member is a permanent resident, they can live, study andwork in Canada. There are two different processes for sponsoring your family underthe FC. One process is used for sponsoring your spouse, conjugal or common-lawpartner and/or dependent children. Provincial Nominees

"Persons who immigrate to Canada under the Provincial Nominee Programhave the skills, education and work experience needed to make an immediateeconomic contribution to the province or territory that nominates them. Theyhave been assessed as being able to economically establish themselvessuccessfully as permanent residents in Canada. Live-in care givers

Refugees

"Refugees and persons in need of protection are people within oroutside Canada who fear persecution and going back to their homecountry. In keeping with its humanitarian tradition and internationalobligations, Canada protects thousands of people each year.

Refugees on average makeup 10% all immigrants that come to Canada each year.

There are a lot of challenges faced by potential immigrants. All therequirements for applying, which in itself can be complicated and very

long, are difficult to qualify. The majority of applicants need acombination of the following : good education, skills in a trade, the

knowledge of English or French, and work already set up for them inCanada. All these are to make sure that the immigrants will be an asset

to Canada's economy. Now if you cannot meet these requirement,qualifying is extremely hard and requires a lot more time and effort in

improving your skills so you can meet one of the nine applicationcategories.

Many things influence why people pack their bags and move to Canada.These are known as the push and pull factors, which are what is drivingsomeone away from where they live, and what is attracting someone to

move to Canada.

In other countries around the world there are many reasons whyindividuals feel the need to start a a life in another country. There are

countries where their citizens have limited to no rights, jobs are scarce,they are persecuted for their beliefs, and their government is corrupt.

All these factors play into account in an individuals decision forchoosing immigrating to another country.

Canada on the other hand, is a stable and accepting country. It hasmore opportunities for work, education, and people's personal andreligious beliefs are respected. The combination of an intolerablesituation in your home country pushes citizens to seek a better

situation that promises opportunities for a better life not only forthemselves but also their families.
