But my view is that you need a

system at the border. You need

some fencing but you need

technology. You need boots on the

ground. And then you need to

have interior enforcement of our

nation's immigration laws inside

the country. And that means

dealing with the employers who

still consistently hire illegal

labor.

Introduction

How does this immigration thing work, does it affect me?

What is the issue?

In 2005 estimates show that illegal

immigrants make up 3.3 of the total 28

percent of immigrants in the United States.

But here is where the issue comes to play 55

percent of the immigrants are on welfare, not

just the legal immigrants but the illegal

immigrants also. This has many American

ticked off because their taxes is helping

someone who is not even legally immigrated

to the United States.

So why are so many of them coming into the

United States? The immigrants see many

opportunities here and they take a hold of all

the opportunities.

Did you

know? $1117 - The average amount

you and your family paid in taxes this year to support illegal immigrants.

$52 Billion - The cost of educating the children of illegal immigrants. This is by far the single largest cost to the American taxpayer.

$2,700 - The average dollar amount a single illegal household costs the US federal government.

Half of 38.5 million born population in the United States, 50.0 percent were female.

Does Immigration Happen Around The World?

"Remember, remember

always, that all of us, and

you and I especially, are

descended from

immigrants and

revolutionists."

— Franklin D. Roosevelt

What’s so great about America?

History In 1776, Britain broke away

and was recognized as the

new nation of the United

States of America following

the Treaty of Paris in 1783.

During the 19th and 20th

centuries, 37 new states were

added to the original 13 as the

nation expanded across the

North American continent and

acquired a number of overseas

possessions. The two most

traumatic experiences in the

nation's history were the Civil

War (1861-65), in which a

northern Union of states

defeated a secessionist

Confederacy of 11 southern

slave states, and the Great

Depression of the 1930s, an

economic downturn during

which about a quarter of the

labor force lost its jobs. Over

a span of more than five

decades, the economy has

achieved steady growth, low

unemployment and inflation,

and rapid advances in

technology.

Statistics

Over half of the US population will be living in

poverty before the age of 65.

A study released by the Federation for American

Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that illegal

immigration now costs federal and local taxpayers

Current

Situation

There is an estimated amount of 12 million illegal immigrants that are here in the United States. Some of

this is due to human trafficking, illegal drug

dealing scandals, and some are trying to come to America for financial

reasons. Some of these illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from

Americans because these aliens will work for such low wages. Immigration

can also lead to gangs and the crime rate in the

United States to increase. Some fugitives flee from Mexico to escape being

punished for a crime. Even though this occurs some

Americans will traffic others in America illegally to do work for them with

outrageous conditions and pay these people next to

nothing wages. Sometimes entire families including teens and children are

worked to the bone like adults with the same low

pay.

Case Study

With this being said there needs to be a solution to this problem. Increasing the border security won’t do anything because that has been done and the same results came about. So I think becoming a registered U.S. citizen should be an easier process. This way we would at least know who is in America. Next, I feel as if there should be undercover agents in areas of other countries that have large numbers of illegal immigrants in America. This could cut back the number of illegal immigrants and also make the illegal immigrants think twice about sneaking into America.

Solution

Wal-Mart was sued for having illegal immigrants working at the store as janitors. This is important because Wal-Mart had to pay 11 million dollars to have the charges dropped against their company. This was a record fine in civil immigration cases. This just goes to show you that immigration is real and isn’t a myth.

Can immigration help or hurt your life?

Are you affected by immigration?

Current Situation:

Over the years, illegal immigration

has risen. Each year the illegal

immigrants count has gone up.

In America there is a number

between 12 – 20 million illegal

immigrants. The issue is not that

they are in America using our

resources, but it is that they are

using our resources without

contributing to anything.

Illegal immigrants use our hospitals

and schools without paying taxes or

having health insurance. The current

problem is not sharing, but instead

equal distribution.

It is not fair for them to receive

things that they do not pay for, and

infringe on legal citizens who do.

What should the government be doing?

To help slow down and eventually stop illegal

immigration the government needs to start cracking

down more on the illegal immigrants coming into

America. The government needs to find ways that

forces them to contribute. To start, the government

can monitor the cheap labor given to illegal

immigrants and track down the companies that are

doing it. If this was to happen, for an illegal

immigrant to find work they would have to be

documented. Another thing the government could

implement is sales tax. In Tennessee there is no

state income tax, so that means an illegal immigrant

there pays the same taxes as a citizen. If this was

done in every state they would contribute as much

to the system as they take out.

Case Study On September 30, 2010 gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman revealed that her former maid Nicandra Diaz Santillan use fraudulent documents to obtain employment. On both different documents she list different names. On her social security card, Diaz uses the name Nicandra Santillan. On the I-9 form, Nicky is listed as a nickname and Diaz as her maiden name and middle initial. Diaz signed the form saying that she is knowledgeable of imprisonment if there was any false information. She also attested she was a Lawful Permanent Resident and entered a false ‘alien’ record as proof. Whitman was accused by the maid and her attorney of knowingly employing an illegal immigrant. This case shows that many illegal immigrants are not undocumented, but instead come to America with false documents.
