28 JULY 2016 ISSUE 7

From the Principal

It is wonderful to be sitting in the Principal’s chair for the rest of the year. I believe we have a great school community and feel privileged to be the principal of this school. My deputy position is shared between Theresa Baines and Jo Harman. Two outstanding teachers who bring a wealth knowledge to the role.

As usual Term 3 is a very busy time at Ocean Road Primary School. Some of the fantastic extra curricula activities this term are Interschool Cross Country, Numeracy and Literacy Stars, Science Week, Book Week, Naidoc Day and the Year 3 Musical.

Professional Development

The first two days of the term were designated Professional Development days. To get the first day rolling Susan Titshall facilitated an icebreaker with all staff. Michelle Grover showcased the work she is doing with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority [SCASA]. After recess Jo Harman, Karyn Mort, Sherrie Smith and Kathryn Smith introduced staff to the new Digital Technologies curriculum. After lunch, Magella Corrigan and Shane Liackman furthered our professional learning in John Hattie’s research of Visible Learning. The quality of these professional learning sessions made it very obvious the talent and professional excellence we have on staff.

Day 2 was dedicated to learning how to develop a Growth Mindset. Author James Anderson presented psychologist Carol Dweck’s research in developing a Growth Mindset through dedication and hard work. He explained that excellence is the end result of a long process of learning and deliberate practice.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all students who participated in both the Cross Country trials and the Peel Sports Association Interschool Cross Country yesterday in Meadow Springs. We are very proud of our students who represented ORPS with dedication, determination and exceptional behaviour. Ocean Road Primary School finished with 5th place overall out of 21 schools. A big congratulations to our amazing runners and Mr Freshwater organising another successful Cross Country.

School Grounds It is always a pleasure to return to school and see the pride our cleaners and gardener take in keeping our school looking it’s best. On behalf of the staff and wider school community, I would like to thank you for your continual hard work. The Addam’s Family

This week the Year 6 students had the opportunity to view the Halls Head production, The Addam’s Family. Mrs Boyle Mrs Mort

accompanied the students on the bus to and from the college.

School Uniform

Thank you for your support ensuring your child wears the school uniform each day. As we are in the colder months of the year I

would ask that if you don’t have a school jumper, your child wears a jumper or cardigan that is prominently navy blue. I have

noticed there is a large number of uniform items hanging up outside the library in lost property. If you can’t find your child’s

jumper, it may be there.

Japanese Exchange Students

Ocean Road will have the pleasure of hosting visiting Japanese this term. The Japanese students will work alongside Sensai

Chubb in LOTE helping to present lessons and share their knowledge of Japan.

2017 Class Planning Planning for classes and teacher placements for 2017 will be commencing shortly. To assist us with this could you please let the school know ASAP if your child/ren will not be returning to Ocean Road Primary School next year either by phone, email or by returning the slip below.

Regards

Ms Jenny Lay
