IMPORTANT MISSILES
QUICK REACTION SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILES (QRSAM)
This missile has been developed to replace the „Akash‟ missile defence system.
It has 360-degree coverage, light weight, high mobility and shorter second reaction time as
compared to „Akash‟.
It also uses solid fuel propellant.
It has a stated range of strike range of 25-30 km with capability of hitting multiple targets.
It is capable of hitting the low flying objects.
MEDIUM – RANGE – SURFACE TO AIR MISSILE
The new missile system is developed by India‟s Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) in partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
The MRSAM provides the armed forces with air defense capability against a variety of aerial
threats at medium ranges.
The missile launcher and the command post would be made in India, with the rest of the
complex system – including the missile itself – to be made in Israel.
IAI will reportedly supply India with 2,000 missiles capable of intercepting enemy aircraft and
missiles within a 70-kilometer range.
The proposed MRSAM, to replace the old Pechora missiles which currently in service of
Indian Defense Forces.
The MRSAM missile is equipped with an advanced active radar radio frequency (RF) seeker,
advanced rotating phased array radar and a bidirectional data link.

The RF seeker, located in the front section of the missile, is used to detect moving targets in all
weather conditions.
The MRSAM surface-to-air missile is powered by a dual-pulse solid propulsion system
developed by DRDO.
The propulsion system, coupled with a thrust vector control system, allows the missile to move
at a maximum speed of Mach 2.
The weapon has the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously at ranges of 70km.
NUCLEAR CAPABLE AGNI I
Agni-I is a short-range ballistic missile developed by DRDO of India under the
Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.
It is sleek single-stage missile, powered by solid propellants developed after the Kargil War to
fill the gap between 250 km range of Prithvi-II and 2,500 km range of Agni-II.
It was first launched on 25 January 2002 from a road mobile launcher at Integrated Test Range
(ITR), Wheeler Island.
Agni-I was developed by advanced systems laboratory, the premier missile development
laboratory of the DRDO.
Weighing 12 tonnes, the 15-metre-long Agni-I, which can carry payloads up to 1000 kg, has
already been inducted into the Indian Army.
The missile features many new indigenously-developed technologies, including the very high
accuracy Ring Laser Gyro based Inertial Navigation System (RINS), and the most modern and
accurate Micro Navigation System (MINS) which improves the accuracy of the missile.
AGNI SERIES MISSILES

Agni-3 with 2,500 km range,
Agni-4 with more than 3,500 km range.
Agni-5 with more than 5500km.
ASTRA BVR AIR-TO-AIR MISSILE
Astra is an all weather beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile developed by the
Defence Research and Development Organisation, India.
It is the first air-to-air missile developed by India.
It features mid-course inertial guidance with terminal active radar homing.
Astra is designed to be capable of engaging targets at varying range and altitudes allowing for
engagement of both short-range targets at a distance of 20 km (12 mi) and long-range targets
up to a distance of 80 km (50 mi).
Astra has been integrated with Indian Air Force‟s Sukhoi Su-30MKI and will be integrated
with Dassault Mirage 2000 and Mikoyan MiG-29 in the future.
PRAHAAR MISSILE

Prahar (“Strike”) is an Indian solid-fuel road-mobile tactical ballistic missile developed
by DRDO.
Prahar is expected to replace the Prithvi-I short-range ballistic missile in Indian service.
The missile is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation, guidance and electromechanical
actuation systems with advanced on board computer.
It is a quick-reaction, all-weather, all-terrain, highly accurate battlefield support
tactical weapon system.
The missile fills the short-range tactical battlefield missile role as required by the Indian Army
to take out strategic and tactical targets.
„Prahar‟ is a contemporary weapon system capable of carrying multiple types of warheads and
neutralizing a wide variety of targets.
BALLISTIC MISSILE INTERCEPTOR AAD
AAD is an anti-ballistic missile designed to intercept incoming ballistic missiles in the endo-
atmosphere at an altitude of 30 km (19 mi).
AAD is a single-stage, solid-fuelled missile.
Guidance is provided by an inertial navigation system.
BRAHMOS
BrahMos is a joint collaboration between India and Russia and is capable of being launched
from land, sea, sub-sea and air against the surface and sea-based targets.
It has a strike range of around 290 km and is described as the world‟s fastest supersonic cruise
missile.
The range of the supersonic missile was initially capped at 290 km as per the obligations of the
Missile Technology Control Regime.

Since India‟s entry into the club, the range has been extended to 450 km and the plan is to hit
600km.
The Army and the Navy have already inducted the missile, while the air-launched variant is
undergoing trials.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired with an indigenous seeker
for the first time
SEEKER TECHNOLOGY
The seeker was jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory
(DRDL), Hyderabad, and BrahMos Aerospace
Seeker technology, which determines the accuracy of a missile, is a closely guarded secret
Mastering it is a significant milestone in missile technology and would reduce import
dependence
DHANUSH ARTILLERY GUN

PINAKA
The indigenous Pinaka rocket system of the Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) is being evolved into a precision-guided missile, with enhanced range
and accuracy to hit its targets
It is known for firing a salvo of 12 rockets in just 44 seconds
The rocket has been developed by the Armament cluster of the DRDO, with a lead from Pune-
based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE)
Along with ARDE, the High Energy Material Research Laboratory in Pune and two DRDO
establishments in Hyderabad have contributed to the development
The initial version of the Pinaka rocket was Mark I, with a range of 40 km
It was further developed into Pinaka Mark II, which has an enhanced range of 70 to 80 km
Pinaka Mark I had been used in the 1999 Kargil conflict
