Notes on Security when Using Wireless LAN
(Importantinformationoncustomer rights (maintainingprivacy)
The advantage of usinga wireless LAN over a LAN cable is that, because informationisexchanged usingradio signals, youcaneasily connectto the network if youare withinrange of
the radio signals. A disadvantage of this is thatwithina certainrange, the electromagnetic
signals canpass through barriers such as walls, so thatif security countermeasures are not
implemented insome way, problems such as the followingmay occur.
Communicationdata canbe intercepted
A third party may be able to receive wireless transmissions withoutauthorization, and they
could obtainpersonal informationfrom these transmissions such as IDs, passwords, or credit
card numbers, or they could interceptthe contents of personal e-mail messages.
Unauthorized access to the networkA third party could access anindividual or intra-company network withoutpermissionand
carry outany of the followingactivities.
Retrieve personal data or other secret information (information leakage)
Pose as another user and send inappropriate data (impersonation)
Overwrite the contents of intercepted data and resend it (falsification)
Introduce a computer virus which could cause data loss or system crashes (damage)
Initially, the possibility thatsuch problems could occur through settings concerningthe
security of the wireless LAN productand by usingthe productare decreased, because the
wireless LAN card and the access pointhave security measures to deal with these problems.
We recommend thatyouuse this productafter makingsecurity settings usingour ownjudgementand assumingfull responsibility, and with your full understandingof problems
thatmay occur if youdo notmake any security settings.
Notes on Setting SSID (Service Set Identifier)
For protectionof security, note the followingprecautions whensettingthe SSID.
Change the SSID from the defaultsetting.
Do notsettexts by which the owner canbe identified as the SSID.
Notes on Setting Cryptographic Key
For protectionof security, note the followingprecautions whensettingthe cryptographic key.
Avoid usingwords ona dictionary as practicably as possible.
Combine meaningless alphanumeric characters and symbols.
Use texts consisted of atleast13 characters or more or of 20 characters or more if possible.

The print density can be set with DIP switches (2-3/2-4) or the customized value. (See
"Selecting the Print Density (DIP Switches 2-3/2-4)" on page 45.) The initial setting of the
customized value is Depends on the DIP switch settings. If the customized value is
changed, the value set with the customized value is enabled.
First change the print density, and then configure the multi-tone print density.
If you set the density too high, the contrast becomes lower. Select the density level
checking the overall tone balance of your image.
Depending on print conditions, such as print duty and print head temperature, print speed is
automatically adjusted, which may cause white lines due to intermittent print (the motorsometimes stops). To avoid this, keep the print speed constant by setting it lower.

Adjusting the Paper Roll Near-End Sensor
Below are two situations where a roll paper NE sensor adjustmentis required. To adjustthe detectionpositionto suitthe diameter of the roll paper core used.
To adjustthe detectionpositionof remainingamountof paper.
Follow the steps below to adjustthe roll paper near-end detector.
1 Open the roll paper cover, and remove the roll paper.
2 Loosen the adjustment screw fastening the sensor, and align the upperedge of the positioning plate with the adjustment position.
3 Tighten the adjustment screw.
4 After adjustment, make sure that the detection lever operates smoothly.
Since roll paper cores vary slightly in shape, depending on paper roll design and
manufacturing tolerances, it is impossible to detect the remaining paper exactly.
Use roll paper with a core inner diameter of 12 mm {0.47"} and outer diameter of 18 mm
{0.71"} so that the NE sensor can detect the remaining paper as accurately as possible.
