From Pastor Norton In 1917, an epidemic broke out in

Europe that would ravage numerous

nations worldwide and leave millions

of people dead or permanently

affected physically. This disease is

known as Encephalitis Lethargica.

People started out having sore throats

and fever, but the symptoms

worsened to severe headaches,

double vision, and speechlessness.

The most famous symptom of this

disease was its catatonic affect on the

body - frozen muscles that left the

person stuck in a frozen, statue state.

This epidemic eventually subsided

around 1926, and there are very few

cases reported worldwide each year.

Churches aren’t immune to spiritual

diseases that affect the Body of Christ.

One disease that can affect the

Church is Spiritualitis Lethargica. The

various symptoms of this spiritual

condition are indifference, lack of

commitment, complaining, and

selfishness.

However, the most common symptom

is failure to speak and act on behalf of

our God. When it comes to sharing

the Gospel and our story of what God

has done for us in Christ, we freeze up

and say nothing at all. Unlike

Encephalitis Lethargica, Spiritualitis

Lethargica is alive and well in many

churches.

The Apostle Peter reminds us of our

responsibility to be ready to share our

hope with all people - “...but set apart

the Messiah as Lord in your hearts,

and always be ready to give a defense

to anyone who ask you for a reason for

the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15).

The more we walk with Christ daily, the

less rigid we will be in our lives and the

more we will want to tell others about

Him! Who will you tell about our Great

God and Great Savior? May we all

speak so that the World may know

Him.

Our students kicked off a missions focus on October 29th, as they began looking at the lives of "Five Who Changed the World" by looking at William Carey and his heartbeat for the Great Commission. We continue that focus tonight with a special missions meal and conversation with Ed and Linda Miller, as they share what God did in and through them during their missionary journey to Africa. Over the next few Wednesdays, we will look at the lives of the Judsons, Bill Wallace, Lottie Moon, and Jim Elliot as commit to join them in being the next to "change the world" by following Jesus' command to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

Looking ahead, however, we have will have a Christmas party on December 17th and the STAND OUT student life conference, February 27-28, 2015. Also, stay tuned for upcoming details about a family night with the Dallas Stars and DNow details!

Christmas Mission’s Offering Christmas Mission’s Offering

Our Goal: $50,000 Our Goal: $50,000

A Going Church The church is not just to be the ones praying, giving and sending out of

missionaries but is to actually be the ones being sent. Mission must be

at the very heart of the church because it is at the very heart of God.

Mission is not optional because it is at the core of what it means to be a

faithful disciple.

As a church member, where is the Lord leading you to serve? If you are

willing, there are opportunities to serve in going to Asia, Zambia,

Guatemala, Boston, Oklahoma, or in Mission Grand Prairie this coming

year. Look at the times below and share with me where God would have

you serve.

If you are praying about participation, please share your interest by

signing up in our church foyer so we can give you the necessary forms

and preparation materials.
