    Presidents Report

We had our Board meeting last Tuesday and, as is usual in this ClubDirectors reported on some of the fantastic service initiatives mem-bers undertake nearly every week. These include:• Post the Board meeting Richard Shermon and Chris D'Arcy

have finalised support for Matt's Place a social meals pro-gramme in Cheltenham. We will sponsor one meal session

every month, at a cost of $300. See more on page 2.• Malcolm and Chris endorse that we sponsor two club mem-

bers each year to the RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute). Thisis a four week course exploring Rotary and its programmes. There is another course later this year; please let anyone ofus know if you are interested.

    • We are financially supporting Cheltenham Community Centrein their Gentle exercise and Chi Yoga Classes. These cours-es benefit Seniors but are not currently self-sustaining. Thisfits I with our interest in creating opportunities for Seniors. We will support the classes for a year to see if the classesare viable.

    • Kerrie is continuing to negotiate with the Concourse Tradersre how we can assist them. There is discussion about help-ing with the Christmas Carnival however any assistancewould be predicated on a family friendly event.

    • See more details of the Community programme on page 3.

Last week's home grown speakers were superb. Chris Mara is alocal and he was able to give us more information about Interplastwhich we have supported this year. Then we also had our own "home-grown" inspirational leaders Peter and Heather talking aboutthe Farmers' Market. Their achievements and the Club's commit-ment has enabled us to pursue our social support programmes evenmore effectively. The money raised from the Farmers' Market hasmeant we are contributing our time to raise funds to support others -

    fantastic!

Next week there is no meeting at VGC, only an extended weekendmeeting, for those going to Conference. Thanks to Ken, ably assist-

ed by Shirley, for organising this. Ken has also initiated com-ments to District about Conference format and location. Thesemay take some time to filter through the system given thatConferences are locked in years in advance, however I amsure our comments will make a difference in the long term. Asan A/ District Governor I am sure Ken will keep pursuingthis for us.

munity lunch eachmonth. We anticipatecontinuing this sponsor-ship for the rest of 2016.

The program helps dis-advantaged and sociallyisolated people in theBayside community toenjoy all the comforts ofa home cooked mealand friendship at Matt’s

    Place.

Matt’s Place, open every Tuesday and Thursday, provideswarm hospitality for those who are doing it tough or are discon-nected from the community. A two course hot meal is providedas well as an opportunity for connection and social interactionthrough activities such as playing cards.
