    Presidents Report

The Conference was fun, made so by the great people we

were with, and some speakers who were inspirational. Major

Brendan Nottle of the Salvation Army talked with passion

about the early roots of the Salvation Army in Melbourne-

these were early beginnings for all of the Salvation Army

worldwide. He talked about taking the tired Army back to its

roots, reminding the Administration staff about its mission. He

is also Chaplain to Collingwood Football Club, he seems to

have brought new focus to their community effort.

Ian Risely Rotary World President Nominee talked about the

future of Rotary, and asked us a vital question" Would you join

your club now as a potential member?". My answer now is "Of

course", so many members have worked hard to ensure our

image is excellent and that we welcome potential members.

Ian also said that amidst necessary and inevitable change that

what is non-negotiable is our ethical standards.

Janien Mahony also talked about Family Violence and the lost

and silent victims of family violence - children.

The next conference venue was announced- Geelong. The

venue looks fantastic, Carol District Governor Elect and her

team have already locked in excellent speakers. I have con-

tacted the Quest in Geelong and will be talking with them re-

garding costs etc. for next year.as with this year we will have.

    Lot of fun!

Everyone who attended really helped us to achieve this goal.

Roy & Pat, Tony, Charmaine, Lynda, Malcolm and Louise, Me-

gan & James, David and Di, David and Sue, Chris and Heather

    - thanks for coming. Thanks to James and Megan for their

work on the golf day. As always Megan ensured we celebrat-

    ed.

Special thanks to Ken, assisted by Shirley, for his fabulous

    organisation and care.

     Yours in Rotary

    Not The Conference Golf Day

As many will be aware District has decided to separate itstraditional golf day from the conference and hold it as aseparate event. Undaunted, we were able to enjoy a de-

lightful “not the conference golf day” prior to conference,at Mooroopna Golf Club.

A small field of 10 including four from Noble Park played4BBB in warm conditions on a delightful parkland course, followed by drinks and Chinese buffet at the Club, wherewe were joined by another eight Members and Partners.Manager Craig and the staff were very welcoming andensured we had an enjoyable day.

Noble Park (Graeme Smith and John Williams) took the

prize with 44 points, and David and Di Hone were a closesecond on 42. We were able to celebrate birthdays forWolf (Wolf Wolf Wolf) and Greg Penaluna, and Meganadded some frivolity with games, won by Ken.A great start to what was an enjoyable and informativeconference.

Thanks to Rob McArthur for the initial organisation andTrish for support and prizes.

    Conference 2016

Nineteen “blue shirt” Beaumaris Rotarians and partnersventured up to Shepparton for District 9810 Conference,

and by all the feedback, everyone enjoyed themselves.

On Thursday, the beautiful Mooroopna Golf course washome for our golfers, with others arriving in the eveningfor drinks, Chinese smorgasbord and birthday celebra-tions for Wolf and Chris.

The conference got underway on Friday afternoon. Thisyear’s theme was “Power of the Past Force of the Fu-ture”. Speakers included Caroline Overington who gave avery informative talk about the last woman hanged in Aus-tralia.

We were all very pleased to see the reappearance of our

famous New Zealand magician, Johnathan Usher, whoentertained us throughout the conference. We were alsotreated to a wonderful piano recital by the winner of theAustralian National Piano Award. Friday night was ourclub dinner, and we all spent a relaxing evening atBohjass, a tapas and wine bar in the main street of Shep-parton.

Saturday saw the speaker program move to a new levelwith the passion and intensity of belief in what one canachieve, through the presentations by Kate Carnell AO,

Major Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army and Gem-ma Sisia and young Dorice from The School of St Jude.In the evening we donned our finest dancing attire andheaded off to the Gala Dinner “My Favourite TV Show”,as “Dancing with the Stars”. Although we didn’t win aplacing Megan’s magnificent shoes were mentioned in theAwards!

Sunday brought a new perspective on how our knees, eyes, brain cells and other body parts will be repaired inthe future, with an absolutely amazing talk by ProfessorGordon Wallace on the use of 3D printing to make us allbionic in the future.

The burning question on every Rotarian’s mind during themorning was “Who stole Mr Bean from the Gala Dinner?”,as his life size cut-out image was part of the silent auc-tion. We were all advised that the thief had been caughton CCTV and this would be played to the 440 attendees ifhe wasn’t returned. More will be revealed soon!

The conference concluded with a BBQ lunch in the parkbefore we all made our merry way back home.

See photos on pages 2, 4 and 8.
