Introduction: Who we are

Hellenic Research and Educational Institute “Panos Mylonas” for the Road Safety and the Prevention and Reduction of Traffic Accidents.

Established on May 12th 2005 after the tragic lossof Panos Mylonas, a 22 year old University studentof Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering andWRC accredited journalist.

RSI is a non-for-profit Organization founded by Universityinstitutions, private entities, an audit company and alarge number of agencies and volunteers.

Traffic Safety and Mobility Education in the Greek National Education System

Primary Education Secondary Education

A minimum number of hours is required by law.The number of hours varies per grade and each school year.

Traffic Safety is not a dedicated subject.

No legal minimum requirement of teaching hours

External experts are usually invited to teach

By a teacher who has undertaken the responsibility to coordinate a traffic education project in one or different grades and classes.

Not a dedicated subject

Thematic Week: Teachers can voluntarily choose to integrate road safety topics in their lesson plans for one week during the school year (next slide)

Teachers are not officially trained in traffic safety education while on their studies at college.

External experts – Road Safety NGOs/Traffic Police - are usually invited to deliver programmes.

Implemented by the class teacher or a teacher who has undertaken the responsibility to coordinate traffic education.

The aim of the KROS project is to bring a change on how road safety programs andinitiatives are implemented in schools across Europe, by strengthening the profiles of theteaching profession on road safety issues.
