About the Seminar Theme : -The International seminar on “Understanding tribes in Neo-liberal era” aims at providing a comprehensive overview of contemporary issues & concerns on tribes & their development in India. As many as 705 tribal communities in India have been identified as scheduled tribes. Each community has its own socio-cultural attributes & rich cultural heritage which is more or less centered on the natural resources & environment. From the earlier times , understanding the cultural significance & relevance of each community’s tradition with respect to its ecological niche has been challenging. Starting with the post-independence era , planning for the development of the tribes has been accelerated & a number of appropriate interventions have been designed & implemented. These initiatives needs critical evaluation from academia, public policy makers & other stakeholders including the community. The present seminar is a humble attempt to disseminate the coeval understanding on tribes of India from different directions & depth to view vicissitude & futurity.
