The journey of the Jargon
Busters
Where we started
In November 2008 we put together
a proposal for the Swale District
Partnership Board to make their
leaflet and poster into an easy read
version.
They agreed that this needed to
happen, so, we were given the
money and we set to work.
Research
We carried out research on how
to
use pictures.
• What do they mean to people?
• Are you using the right kind of
picture?
• Do you really need to use
pictures?
Research
We found out a lot of information
by testing out other forms that
had already been made easy
read.
They did not really work!!
Designing our leaflet
We learnt new skills by
taking photographs of the
important people involved
with the Swale District
Partnership group.
The pictures we took were
used in the leaflet.
Designing our posters
We all learnt new
computer skills while we
were designing our
posters.
The end product
The Swale District
Partnership Group was
very pleased with the
work we did. Stewart and
Holly were paid for their
hard work and everyone
learnt new skills.
What we decided to do nextEveryone really enjoyed the
work they had done and all
said they would like to carry
on making other
information easy to read.
So we set out to find more
work!!
Other projects
Then the Kent Probation
Service gave us some
work to complete. We
learnt about community
orders and bail.
We got paid for this
work as well.
Finding a nameWe started to get a lot of work and decided
we needed to find ourselves a name. People
voted on a poll and the winner was ….
Jargon Busters
Our flyer
We needed to promote ourselves so we
had a flyer designed to tell people what
we can do for them.
Moving on….
Now that we had a name and
a leaflet we needed to plan
ahead.
We planned a team day to
talk about our action plan.
Team DayWe talked about the laws
we follow being part of
Jargon Busters.
Laura explained how we can
change Jargon Busters into
a social firm in the future.
Action Plan
We started work on
our Action Plan and
decided who was
going to be
responsible for each
action.
Looking for Funding
Laura supported us to
answer questions and
fill in a funding form. We
found this hard! The
funding form needs
Jargon Busting.
Working in Partnership
We have been working
with Kent Libraries.
We have put together
an A to Z book in
Health and Fitness.
It will be in the
libraries from January
2010.
Our Vision
In the future Jargon Busters
will become a social firm
and provide employment for
people with and without
learning disabilities.
This is the journey so far.........
