VALIDITY OF STUDY PERMIT

The study permit becomes invalid as soon as:

• the expiry date on your study permit has passed;

• 90 days have elapsed since you completed your studies;

• 90 days have elapsed since you abandoned your studies.

WORKING AFTER YOUR STUDIES

What is a post-graduation work permit?• Open work permit;

• Valid according to the duration of the study program (between 8 and 36 months).

Conditions:

• To hold or to have held a valid study permit AND currently hold valid temporary status or have left Canada;

• be at least 18 years of age;

• have studied continuously on a full-time basis in Canada in a study program for a minimum period of eight months;

• have obtained an official letter of confirmation of end of studies and any other document requested when applying (such as transcript).

WORKING AFTER YOUR STUDIESPost-graduation work permit

You are not eligible to a post-graduation work permit if you:

• have studied in a program for a duration of less than eight months (900 hours);

• have not studied full-time during all the semesters (except the last semester which can be part time OR unless you were authorized to take a leave of absence for up to 150 days);

• were not actively pursuing your course or program of studies or did not comply with the conditions of your study permit;

• hold certain international scholarships;

• completed the majority of the credits by correspondence learning;

• have obtained a post-graduation work permit at the end of another study program;

• completed a program of study delivered by a non-Canadian institution located in Canada.

When and where can I submit an application?

• Within 180 days after your school issues your final marks (must have held a study permit at some point during that period);

• Online / by mail / at land border crossings in certain conditions.

WORKING AFTER YOUR STUDIES

WHAT IS AN A75 WORK PERMIT?It’s a work permit tied to a specific employer.

CONDITIONS:• Hold a CSQ that was obtained under the category of skilled worker;• Reside in Québec and intend to live in Québec;• Have a valid work permit;• Have an employment offer for not more than two years;• Have a receipt for payment of compliance fees paid by the employer.

The selection of skilled workers

A skilled worker is a foreign national who wants to settle in Québecto work and who is also at least 18 years of age.

In order to be selected permanently, 2 programs are offered toQuébec graduates:

TO BE SELECTED AS A SKILLED WORKER, YOU MUST ALSO: • Demonstrate advanced intermediate knowledge of spoken French

Assessment factors:

• Successful completion of a study program conducted entirely* in French in a Québec university or a recognized institution, or

• Successful completion of three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary educationconducted entirely* in French in Québec or abroad, or

• Results of a standardized test or diploma recognized by the MIDI, attesting to having achieved an advanced intermediate level, or

• Attestation of fulfillment of language requirements from a professional order, or

• Successful completion of an advanced intermediate French course taken in Québec in a recognized educational institution

* including a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation, if applicable.

QUÉBEC GRADUATES – SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

TEMPORARY SUSPENSION IN THE INTAKE OF APPLICATIONS IN THE QUÉBEC GRADUATE STREAM – July 10 to November 1, 2019

Two exemptions from the suspension:

1. The graduate who has a valid work permit on July 10, 2019, and that expires before November 1, 2019.

2. The candidate whose application for selection was terminated under An act to increase Québec’s socio-economic prosperity and adequately meet labour market needs through successful immigrant integration (2019, Chapter 11). In this case, either:

• a) the application for permanent selection that was terminated was submitted to the minister under Section 5.01 of the Regulation respecting the selection of foreign nationals (Chapter I 0.2, r. 4);

• or:

• b) the graduate was living in Québec on June 16, 2019, and held a study permit or a work permit issued under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (SOR/2002-227).

QUÉBEC GRADUATES – SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

TEMPORARY SUSPENSION IN THE INTAKE OF APPLICATIONS IN THE QUÉBEC GRADUATE STREAM – July 10 to November 1, 2019

• This decision was designed to give priority to the selection of individuals who occupy a job in Québec during this period.

• It is still possible for Québec graduates who wish to stay in Québec to apply for a post-graduation work permit from the Government of Canada.

This option could eventually make these graduates admissible for the PEQ as temporary foreign workers or favour their profiles if they submit an expression of interest in Arrima.

Specialization) attesting to a minimum of 1,800 hours of continuous education and leading to the practice of a given trade

– Diploma of College Studies (DCS) in technical programs

– Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree or Doctorate

• Have completed a full-time study program in Québec in a Québec universityor an educational institution in Québec recognized by the Ministère del'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur

You are not eligible if you:• have started a new study program• have not lived in Québec for at least half of your study program• are the recipient of a scholarship imposing a condition to return to your country

• Applications for permanent selection are now completed under the principle of an expression of interest:

• You must first create an account in the Arrima portal and file an expression of interest form. This expression of interest will be entered in the Expression of Interest Bank.

• The expression of interest is filed online, free of charge. At this stage, no document is requested.

• The Ministère will then proceed with invitations to invite persons, whose profile meets Québec’s needs, to submit an application for permanent selection.

THE REGULAR SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM

From the Expression of Interest Bank, foreign nationals, in order to be invited to submit an application for selection, must meet one of the following three conditions:

1. have a validated offer of employment outside the Montréal Metropolitan Community;

2. have a validated offer of employment in the Montréal Metropolitan Community;

3. stay in Québec for the main purpose of working and, as the case may be:

▪ have a work permit and have obtained from a Québec educational institution, located in Québec, a(an)

•diploma attesting to 900 hours or more of education

•Diploma of College Studies, attesting to at least 12 months of full-time study

•undergraduate university degree, attesting to at least 12 months of full-time studies

•university graduate degree, Diploma of Higher Specialized Studies or postgraduate degree

▪ have a work permit for a duration of 12 months or more and have at least 6 months of full-time work experience and hold a full-time job.

Foreign nationals who are invited to submit an application for selection in accordance with these conditions will receive priority processing of their applications. Holders of an offer of employment validated by the Ministère will be invited as a first priority.

Prepare the documents

• Read and reread the applicable guides according to the type of application and methods of submission (online, in person, by mail or in hard copy format). Provide all the documents listed in the list of documents in the format required (copy, certified copy, original, colour copies …);

• Translations must be done by a professional translator;

• Answer all the questions on the forms or indicate “N/A” (not applicable) if a question does not apply to you. Indicate if a document is not applicable or if it is not available. If a document is not available, provide the reason;

• Make sure to use up-to-date forms when you are submitting your file;

• Remember to provide payment (receipt).
