CORPUS CHRISTI The Feast of Corpus Christi (The Body of Christ) publicly exhibits our love for Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist. This feast is currently celebrated on the first Sunday after Trinity Sunday.
Please join us in continuing our long held tradition on this feast with a procession surrounding the church campus. The procession will continue immediately as the proper conclusion to the 11:30 am Mass.

A Message from Our Pastor, Fr. Tim Fairman
Dear Friends,
Late on Memorial Day, Fr. Matt, several parishioners and I returned from our eight day pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia-Hercegovina where the Blessed Mother has appeared to six visionaries since June 24th, 1981. We stayed at a retreat house that is owned by Ivan Dragicevic (one of the six visionaries) who has received a visit from Our Lady every day at around 5:40 pm for the last 38 years.
Over the course of the next four weeks, Fr. Matt and I will be offering a reflection on our visit… which was incredible. Even with these four reflections, they will just scratch the surface of our time there and our experience of being at one of the most Catholic places on the face of the earth, united with the Mother of Jesus in prayer.
This week I’d like to focus my reflection on our witnessing of Ivan Dragicevic being visited by the Blessed Mother seven times during our stay.
We would gather in the chapel at Ivan’s retreat house each evening at 5:00 pm to recite the rosary, which in itself was a beautiful experience as people from around the world prayed the rosary simultaneously in their native tongue. Then at the conclusion of the rosary, Ivan would approach the kneeler in front of the sanctuary of the chapel, kneel down with his hands opened in prayer, make the sign of the cross and begin his visitation. His eyes looked up and joy was etched in his face. He spoke quietly at times, nodded or shook his head and continued his visit for about 5-10 minutes before concluding with prayer and the sign of the cross. Then he shared in Croatian what he could of what Mary said to him, which was then translated in English and sometimes Italian, depending on the pilgrims in the chapel that evening.
I’m sure a question many people have about these visions is “are they authentic?” The Catholic Church recently stated that the first seven apparitions are indeed authentic, which is an incredible thing in and of itself, as the Church has never before validated an apparition that was still occurring. More investigation by the Church is ongoing. In the last month, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, gave permission for priests to sponsor pilgrimages to Medjugorje, lending more possibility to the authenticity of the apparitions of the visionaries. Still, are the visionaries who continue to receive visits from Our Lady to be believed?
Having witnessed seven such visits with Ivan from within ten feet of him, I must say that I believe them to be true. I tried and failed miserably at drawing his face later in my journal during a visit, as no cameras are allowed during that time. But his encounters with the Blessed Mother will forever be etched in my heart and soul.
One night I went in the chapel by myself to pray. I knelt on the same kneeler Ivan does and mimicked the posture of his prayer while receiving the vision. I looked up in the same direction he does and waited. Nothing. No visit from Our Lady for me – though I certainly encountered the Blessed Mother in other ways during my pilgrimage there. Perhaps some of us may question, “Why them? Why not us?” The visionaries asked themselves the same question, and in their humility they remind us that they are nothing special. These were ordinary teenagers living their lives as teenagers do in that part of the world when the Blessed Mother broke into their lives on June 24, 1981 and changed their lives forever.
Knowing the history of Bosnia-Hercegovina and the horrific civil war that would take place a decade after the visions began in what was then Yugoslavia adds some context into why the Blessed Mother may have chosen these six teenagers at that moment in history.
As I have gotten older, I have become more and more trusting of God’s providence, so I believe there is a reason why those visionaries were chosen by God through Mary to be visited. To those who question why, I might ask why not?! We don’t need to understand why the Blessed Mother chose to visit the visionaries any more than Our Lady did in Gaudalupe, Knock, Fatima and Lourdes, to name a few, but we are invited to accept that those apparitions are not random in nature either.
I came to believe because Ivan and the others were so sincere. I don’t think that faking stories and behaviors consistently can last for over the course of 38 years. What the Blessed Mother has spoken to the visionaries continues to be scrutinized for heresy but so far none have been found to be present. What are the odds that ordinary teenagers, now middle aged men and women could be so orthodox in reporting what Our Lady says to them over the course of 38 years? I also believe because my faith grew there and my soul was enriched. The good that has come from these visits by the Blessed Mother to that part of the world cannot be calculated. To see the thousands of people that were there in the brief time we visited (“off season,” by the way), gave witness to Catholicism at its best. One of the titles the visionaries give to the Blessed Mother is “Queen of Peace,” and for eight days in May, 2019, Fr. Matt, our pilgrims and I experienced thousands of people from all over the world living in peace. It was, and is, a remarkable experience. My life and my priesthood have been forever changed by this experience. It will take awhile for me to truly appreciate what happened. I greatly look forward to the journey.

The Prayer Challenge Are you ready for the next challenge?
The Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be are each parts of the Rosary Prayer. Say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be daily, in succession, or begin saying the rosary each day. Like anything we do repeatedly, saying these prayers silently or aloud becomes second nature, and we tend to speed through. It is important to remind ourselves to slow down and reflect on the words we are saying.
(To learn how to pray the rosary, visit: h p://www.family-prayer.org/how-to-pray-the-rosary.html) In Luke 11:1-4, one of Jesus’ disciples asks Him, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Jesus replied by giving us the Our Father. This short prayer, according to St. Cyprian of Carthage, is a “...summary of divine teaching [containing] all of our prayers and pe ons.” These are the words Jesus gave us.

The Hail Mary is a prayer which asks for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. The first part of the prayer is essen ally The Annuncia on. The second part of the prayer is where, we, the children of God, ask Mary to intercede on our behalf.

The Glory Be (known by it's La n name "Gloria Patri" meaning "Glory to the Father") is a doxology, or short confession of worship to God. The Glory Be encapsulates the essence of the Chris an faith - that God is revealed in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each are to be equally worshipped and revered. The prayer also reveals God as eternal - He is before all things, is present in the 'here and now', and will always be.

Unplug and spend some quiet time with the Lord. The month dedicated to our Blessed Mother has rapidly come to an end, and we recently spent the holiday remembering those who gave their lives to protect our One Nation Under God, which remains a beacon for the rest of this fallen world.
The US House has just passed legislation that would take away all religious freedoms and conscience rights, forcing religious institutions to hire those who hold opposing views to our Catholic Faith...aka the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
It would also destroy all the protections which protect women in bathrooms and sports, setting us back many decades and harming our wives, sisters and daughters. Even more insidiously, they call it the "Equality Act". It is anything but...
At the same time, every single one of the Democratic candidates have demanded that it be okay to kill children about to be delivered and if born alive during an abortion. We need two parties that protect the inalienable rights that our great nation was founded upon.
Please consider spending some time before the Blessed Sacrament
this coming First Friday for the sake of our country.
Pray to End Abortion
On Saturday, June 8, all parishioners are invited to join members of the St Theresa Parish Respect Life Committee when we pray the Rosary outside an abortion mill in Des Plaines. We will meet about 8:35 am, or when the 8:00 am Mass ends, gathering just outside the Day Chapel at St Theresa Church and returning by 10:15 am. Transportation will be available for those who are able to join us. Please make an effort to join us in this important cause. Thank You.

My children, also my addressing you is a sign of the love and tenderness of the Heavenly Father a big smile filled with the love of my Son, a call to eternal life. Out of love, the Blood of my Son was shed for you. That Precious Blood is for your salvation, for eternal life. The Heavenly Father created man for eternal happiness. It is not possible for you who know the love of my Son and who follow Him to die. Life triumphed; my Son is alive. Therefore, my children, apostles of my love, may prayer show you the way and the means of spreading the love of my Son prayer in the most exalted form. My children, also when you strive to live the words of my Son, you are praying. When you love the people whom you meet, you are spreading the love of my Son. It is love that opens the doors of Paradise. My children, from the beginning, I prayed for the Church. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
At the center of our faith is the conviction that God loves us and calls us to love one another. God gives us a sign of his love and affection for us in giving us priests who serve as our spiritual fathers. They lead our parishes. They offer us support and encouragement in times of need. So often, without thinking of themselves, they serve with great generosity the people entrusted to their care. Now, [next] weekend we have an opportunity to express our gratitude for this gift that we have received. We will take up a special collection to support the priests who have supported us across our lifetime. This collection benefits both our active and retired priests and is directed to the Priests' Retirement and Mutual Aid Association (PRMAA).
The PRMAA supports our 500 active and 225 retired diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. PRMAA provides for the healthcare needs of our active priests as well as the medical and housing needs of our retired priests. This is the only collection that supports the priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. It is separate and distinct from other initiatives for retired religious order priests, sisters, and brothers.
The active priests of the Archdiocese serve throughout Cook and Lake counties by proclaiming the Word of God, celebrating the sacraments, and offering a shepherd's care to our faith communities. Many retired priests continue to serve in their own way and have become indispensable resources for our communities. The health and well-being of all our priests are integral to their ability to work for us and serve our growth in faith.
Join me, then, in making a generous contribution to this weekend's second collection to support our priests. Let it be a sign of gratitude to them and to the Lord for the priestly ministry which has benefited all of us.
