FDRA spoke to reps from the Port of LA today (225) and this iswhat we heard
The terminals at the Port of LALB are filling a majority of theirlabor orders and productivity has returned to normal levelsWith over 20 vessels at anchor we project some sense ofnormalcy within 3 months With the rapid rate of containerdischarge from the over 8000 +TEU sized-vessels and the needto keep the terminal yards fluid we encourage your membersto take delivery of their containers as soon as they becomeavailable We also encourage your members to work closelywith their shipping line partners and the terminal operators toreceive status updates The implementation of the pool of poolschassis program will take place in March which will helpfacilitate efficiencies

Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) just announced atentative agreement on a new five-year contract coveringworkers at all 29 West Coast ports The agreement is subject toratification by both parties The footwear industry is extremely excited about tonightsannouncement that a deal has been reached between the PMAand the ILWU said Matt Priest President of FDRA - Americaslargest footwear trade association Our members and theindustry at large rely on a complex and innovative global supplychain to deliver footwear to American consumers Recentdelays distinctly highlighted the importance of collaborative andefficient operations at our nations ports We applaud both thePMA and the ILWU for working so hard to find a resolution tothe negotiations and look forward to full adoption of theagreement and the immediate resumption of port operations Priest added Over the next few weeks we will start to see aslight reduction in congestion at the ports However withthousands of containers stacked up on boats and dockside westrongly encourage the ports and longshoremen to worktogether to unwind the large backlog and help us get ourfootwear through the ports and into our warehouses as quicklyas possible

TPP negotiators headed to Hawaii (Politico) The United States will host the next meeting of Trans-PacificPartnership chief negotiators in Hawaii March 9-15 The meeting isexpected to be one of the final gatherings of working level officialsbefore trade ministers from the 12 TPP countries tentatively meet inthe spring to potentially wrap up the negotiations according tosources close to the talks
