PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The month started with the Auction night at the club rooms. There were plenty of items for sale.

Geof was our auctioneer extraordinaire ably assisted by Bruce C. Thanks also to Felicity and Andrew

Brand for doing the admin and financial side of things. A big thank you also to Bill Formby for

donating half of his profits on the night to the club. It was then off to Dillons Motors for the workshop

day on Saturday. A good number of people attending and Kevyn Brown’s racer taking centre stage in

the workshop. The Presidential sausages were ably cooked by Catherine D and her friend Steven.

At the next general meeting John and Thelma Huitt will be talking about their trip to USA and T

model rally in Montana which should be very interesting. Robbie D has organised to do a display of

our cars at the Bunnings in Vermont on Saturday morning, this is a fundraising event for the club so it

would be good to make a decent display of cars. On Sunday is the Swap Meet at Dillons Motors.

Please look out all those bits and take a site and sell sell sell.

The Yarrawonga rally on Cup weekend is coming up quickly so please get your application forms in.

Bendigo Swap is also coming up and we would like people to make some time to stay on the club site

and help out. Please talk to Geoff B Chris or myself about this.

The first of the posted magazines with the extra coloured pages came out last month and we hope you

enjoyed it. Please keep sending articles and photos to Chris S our editor.

Another reminder regarding subscriptions. Please get them in ASAP.

AOMC Delegates Report

Meeting Date 29.08.2017.

Venue. Darnum Memorial Hall.

Cropley St. Darnum. (Gippsland)

A copy of the minutes of this meeting are available on the AOMC website at www.aomc.asn.au. The summary

below contains my understanding of the item’s discussed which I believe are of interest to our members.

The meeting was opened by President Keith Mortimer who welcomed all Delegates to the meeting venue.

Guest Speaker. Tonight’s two guest speakers were Mr John Lewis (VicRoads) and Mr Andrew George (Chief

Executive Officer, Society of Automotive Engineers).

John Lewis reported that the transfer of permit in the case of a deceased estate will be clarified on 11th Sept.

Transfer from spouse to spouse will be approved by regulation change (concept joint property). No other transfer

to children or like will be available.

The CPS scheme is currently undergoing a review and it is envisaged some changes will result. It is important

that local communities and the like see benefits to the community from the scheme. VicRoads are investigating

combining the CPS database with the main VicRoads computer. This would enable easier renewals and the

possibility of standard numberplates, but still be logbook based. The CPS currently costs approx. 2 million

dollars per annum to administer.

Andrew George spoke on their close liaison with VicRoads. Questions were raised on changes to trucks over

their working life in relation to modified vehicles. He advised that if changing a vehicle which will result in an

engineers certificate at completion, then involve the engineer throughout the restoration. Screen shots of the

many applicable codes and regulations applicable to restoration changes were shown.

Club permit scheme report. See John Lewis items above and General Business items.

AOMC Upcoming Events. American Motoring Show, 15/04/2018 Yarra Glen Racecourse.

Aussie Classic Car Show, 26/01/2018 Yarra Glen Racecourse.

General Business / Delegates reports / Business Arising.

The issue of asbestos in vehicles was raised. Also the damage done to vehicles by the authorities in checking

vehicles which have been imported. Confusion exists between laminated glass and older types of toughened

safety glass.

The issue of filling out a logbook in advance was queried and VicRoads agreed it will be part of the current

review.

Some club members seem to think there is a stigma attached to displaying a M rather than a H on their CPS

vehicle.

A “B” double could be placed on the CPS scheme provided it meets the criteria.

Discussion took place on both electric and autonomous vehicles and their effect on the roads in connection with

CPS vehicles. Daryl Meek (RACV Motoring Interests Manager) stated that he has attended several conferences

where this has been raised and the general consensus is that the older car movement will be protected.

A question from the floor was addressed to John Lewis as to whether it is envisaged that in the future, the

current CPS could be run without any club involvement. John stated that he is in favour or retaining the club’s.

NEXT DELEGATES MEETING WILL BE HELD, Monday November 20th 2017 at the Austin Healey &

Jaguar Clubrooms in Springvale.

If any further information or clarification is required on any of the above items I may be contacted on 0418 543

939.

Bernie McKeegan, Delegate.

Metcalfe Vintage Tractor Pull Review

Photos and article submitted by Bob Draper

On Sunday Sept 19 we headed off in

Bluey towards Metcalfe for the annual

Vintage Tractor pull.

It was a beautiful morning, just perfect for

the 40K run. As we approached the

reserve it was pleasing to see a hive of

activity with both the tractor and wood

chopping events well underway.

We parked Bluey with quite an impressive

array of vintage and classic cars and

trucks, and after responding to quite a few

T questions from interested onlookers we

had a very enjoyable stroll around the

stalls and events.

We love this day at Metcalf, as its’ like

taking a step back in time to when most small

towns had similar days, with the proceeds shared

around the community sporting clubs, fire

brigades etc. The PA systems calling the events, the smell of the food stalls, the roar, or Pop Pop

Pop of the tractors just make the day special.

As usual the Girvan family was very involved. Neil and sons Rod and Glen all competed and

assisted with the tractor events, Frances had a busy time with recording all the entries and

competitors results, but we are sure they all had a great time.

All over for another year! We recommend this

day out to everyone.
