Week of NOVEMBER 11, 2019
Dear Lakeview Family,
While we were not surprised when Patty Chance announced her retirement at the conclusion of last Sunday
morning’s worship service, we were all sad. For the past thirty-five years Patty has served as our first and
only Director of Children’s Ministries. Her legacy is far reaching, even to the ends of the earth. We will
devote the entire Sunday evening worship service on November 24 to remembering her faithful,
God-fearing, Christ-centered, Spirit-filled ministry to the boys and girls of Lakeview beginning in 1984. At
that service we will receive a love offering to express our gratitude to Patty. A church-wide fellowship will
follow that worship service. Cliff Knight is leading the search to find the person the Lord has to be our next
Director of Children’s Ministries. Please join me in praying for God’s will to be done in this decision.
DANNY AKIN
This Sunday, November 17, we welcome Danny Akin back to the Lakeview pulpit. Dr. Akin is the president
of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary located in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He will lead us in a
study of the Doctrine of Christ. The schedule is:
9:30 am - “The Lion, the Lamb and the World”
10:45 am - “When God Came Down”
6:00 pm - “Jesus Is Everything”
Following the evening service, I have asked Dr. Akin to meet with all of our missionary candidates and all of
those called to vocational gospel ministry.
We will resume our journey through Paul’s letter to the Romans on Sunday morning, November 24.
Gratefully and joyfully,
Al Jackson

CHRISTMAS SHOEBOXES
Our M-PAC kids are collecting Samaritan’s Purse Operation
Christmas Child shoeboxes through Wednesday, November 20,
due by 6:00 PM. Anyone desiring to participate may pick up in-
formation forms this Sunday morning in the KidZone upstairs or
on the lobby counter. Boxes are available in the lobby or KidZone
while supplies last. When submitting your shoeboxes please also
submit $9 (placed inside the shoebox) to cover shipping. More
information can be found at www.samaritanspurse.org.
COAT COLLECTION
We will be collecting new and gently used coats to send to
Bridge Community Church in New York City for their Coats for
the Community event on December 7. They will be giving away
coats in two different areas of their neighborhood - both are
low income housing areas. The coats that you provide will be
meeting a very specific and tangible need! In addition to getting
a new coat, each person will receive a warm cup of coffee or
hot chocolate and information about BCC. Also, each of them
will have intentional time with a volunteer and be prayed over.
The coats will be collected through November 24 and you can
drop them off at the designated location near the welcome desk
in the lobby. We will be accepting coats of all sizes for women,
men, and children. If you are purchasing new coats and are
trying to decide the best adult size to get, we have a greater
need for larger sizes. Please keep in mind that the need is for
thicker winter coats to sustain cold, New York City winters.
Three Sessions 9:30 AM | 10:45 AM | 6:00 PM
After much prayer, it is with a full and thankful heart that my
family and I submit to you my resignation as Director of
Children’s Ministries, effective December 31, 2019. The time
has come. It has been 35 wonderful years! Blessed be the
name of the Lord.
Serving under the direction of Brother Al and Brother Cliff has
been an amazing source of encouragement and support. They
have diligently sought to equip me for the work of ministry to
edify the body of Christ. Thank you to the many of you who
have poured your lives into the children’s ministry, especially in
Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Because of your
commitment to Jesus, our little ones have received critical
spiritual nourishment that prepares them to become mighty
servants of Christ. I so appreciate the many, many of you who
have served in various ways: MPAC, the All Saints Fair, Kid’s
Camp, Summer Fun Days, Al’s Pals, and the International
Missions Festival. We have functioned as a team. And then
there is my family who has been wind beneath my wings as
they have served at my side more than you can know.
Thank you, Lakeview, for entrusting to me the privilege of
assisting parents in teaching and training in righteousness
several generations of children. You have allowed me to
express the passion of my heart – teaching children about
Jesus. My prayers for the salvation of children will continue as
long as I have breath. I ask for your prayers as I make this
transition.
I love the Lakeview body of Christ and I look forward to
continuing to serve our great God with a cheerful and thankful
heart. God’s grace and peace to all of you.
THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST
Adult Sunday School folks and seventh grade through college
students will all meet in the worship center this Sunday at 9:15
AM to hear Dr. Akin present our Doctrine of Christ study. I look
forward to seeing you and Danny there.
I would ask our church family to remember my family this
Saturday, November 16, as we participate in the Ben Knight
Memorial 5K Race that Alabama State University hosts in honor
of Ben. They always give me an opportunity to speak and share.
Pray for me to lift up Christ always!

KIDS WORSHIP HELP NEEDED
Kids Worship needs you!! We urgently need people to volunteer
to serve in Kids Worship. We are serving children ages 4 years
through second grade. They are learning God’s Word through
songs, a lesson, and activity. We use the Jesus Storybook Bible
for our curriculum. All lessons and activities are provided for
you so there is no prep work other than reviewing the
lesson. We typically have about 25 children each Sunday. The
more people that are serving, the less often you will be asked to
serve. Right now, people are serving about 2 times per
quarter. Contact Holly Hutto at [email protected] for
more information.
