Each and every day, INALLIANCE strives to create a more livable, workable world for adults with developmen-tal disabilities. Our primary function is supporting our program participants to gain and maintain employment.

Challenges in job placement for people with disabilities vary greatly. INALLIANCE works as the conduit to marry the interests and skills of the employee with the needs and culture of the employer.

The process for participants includes a review of interests and skills, discussion of the types of jobs available, accommodations that may be needed, schedules, etc. Once established, the job search process begins. INALLIANCE provides assistance in searching for jobs, speaking with employers, reviewing resumes, completing applications and preparing for interviews.

Once on the job, INALLIANCE will provide a Job Coach to work alongside the new employee or to provide off- the-job support, depending on the needs of the participant. The Job Coach may help the participant by answering questions, prompting tasks to be completed or providing other support to ensure the job is completed as requested.

Are you looking to hire? Let’s get connected to discuss the possibility. Give us a call and we will discuss how

INALLIANCE supports successful employees in retail, grocery, medical, government and many other types of jobs throughout the greater Sacramento area.

Feedback? Comments, Questions or Concerns? We would like to hear what you have to say. Please submit comments or inquiries online at www.inallianceinc.com/contact or call 916-381-1300.

To say that this has been an interesting year for INALLIANCE would be a classic understatement. After celebrating the organization’s 60th anniversary in 2012, we knew the day was coming when we would encounter our biggest change in a long time and, sure enough, 2013 brought us the news that Executive Director Diana DeRodeff was leaving INALLIANCE after 30 years of tireless, dedicated and exceptional leadership.

There aren’t words enough to describe Diana’s character and what she’s meant to INALLIANCE, its staff, and the people it serves. I know I speak for the entire Board of Directors in thanking her for her selflessness, commitment and daily display of what it means to be “mission driven”. I would term her “unusual” in these regards, except that she led so many around her to share her commitment that it is, in fact, quite usual for INALLIANCE.

As Diana exited, key staff took on additional responsibilities and filled her shoes with our admira-tion. We thank Donna Bettencourt for agreeing to be our interim leader overall, and Sally Littleton for continuing her excellence in managing our financial picture. Michele McGee was the third leg of the triumvirate that agreed to take on Diana’s responsibilities until we found a new leader. Other managers and staff also stepped up, and we are in a good position as a result.

The task of finding Diana’s replacement took longer than we hoped, but we wanted the right fit. Board member Chris Rice deserves our gratitude for leading this process, and participating staff and members of the Board reached an easy consensus that Richard Royse should be the person to lead INALLIANCE into its new era. While there were certainly other qualified candidates, Richard stood out from the group, and we were very excited he wanted to join us. He has the right combination of experience, different ideas, and vision to lead us all into a new era. Richard is exploring many opportunities for the organization, and the Board will be working closely with him to evaluate these possibilities.

On the Board, we realize that we, too, need to re-double our efforts at helping the organization maintain its standard of excellence in serving the people of this region. We’re looking for addi-tional Board members, new ways to stabilize and grow our financial future, and paths to increase overall the Board’s effectiveness and energy. Ours is a financially sound organization, particularly in comparison to many others around the state with similar missions. We know the State’s funding commitment to our bottom line is unpredictable at best, which is why we are discussing new avenues for growth; we hope to include new community partners and supporters.

To achieve this, ALL of us must be active in telling the story of what it is that the organization does. Advocacy in your circles must be part of everyone’s task at INALLIANCE. We need staff, the Board, the families of people we serve, and, of course, those we serve to speak loudly and together in describing what we do and need to help people with developmental disabilities live full, independent and interesting lives.

We are extremely proud to be affiliated with INALLIANCE and, again, the Board sincerely appreciates the goodwill and tireless commitment of the staff. We look forward to a productive future with you, those we serve, and their families.

Sincerely,

Carl London, 2014 Presidentand the Board of Directors (listed left)

Friends of INALLIANCE,

I would like to thank everyone for your support and very warm welcome since my arrival in April. In the past few months, I have enjoyed learning about INALLIANCE and meeting the amazing staff.

In recent years INALLIANCE and other organizations that support people with developmental disabilities have faced many difficult challenges. In 30 years working in this field I have never seen such an assault on essential funding and services supporting people with developmental disabilities as exists today on both the state and federal levels.

It is important to remember that we are a service system in evolution. Now is the time to step up to protect the rights and opportunities that the families and individuals before us fought so hard to obtain. We can no longer depend upon the protections of the entitlement; we need to work together to build upon the foundation provided to create new opportuni-ties for family members and all people with developmental disabilities in our community. I look forward to meeting you and discussing ways in which you can help.

In closing, I would like to thank my family for their support. My wife Cheryl, our children Katie, Robin, Sarah, Scott and our grandchildren Alex, Eleanor, and Jack are a very big part of who I am. Their support and understanding of my love for this work is a big reason for the contributions I have been able to make to improving other peoples lives.

Again, thank you for your support and warm welcome. I look forward to meeting you and working together.

Richard

Appreciation for his time volunteering at the Sacramento Marina.

On a sunny afternoon, hidden on the east side of the Sacramento River just behind Miller Park, Marcus is spending his afternoon at the Sacramento Marina. He’s a volun-teer, but you may not know it. He’s wearing a logo shirt with his name on it, just like Kendra, the Marina’s Customer Service Specialist and other staff. As part of his program enrollment at INALLIANCE, Marcus spends two days a week volunteering at the Sacramento Marina. Kendra connected with INALLIANCE through the City of Sacramento volunteer program. Turns out, Marcus was just what they needed!

He alternates between light cleaning, janitorial duties and document shredding in the Marina office and outdoor projects including cleaning windows and sweeping the docks. Last summer Marcus helped clean out storage boxes located at each of the 475 slips, but this year he and his Employment Training Specialist Martin will be taking on the task of cleaning the concrete docks between each of the slips. With a significant duck and goose population around the marina it can get pretty dirty! They’re looking forward to this project because it’s something that they feel the boat owners will really notice and appreciate. While he’s at the Marina, Marcus also enjoys talking with co-workers and customers and walking down to the docks to see fish swimming in the river. He would like to go fishing this summer, but needs to find a boat to fish from as fishing on the docks is not permitted.

Marcus participates in the Community Training Program at INALLIANCE, which provides support in finding and maintaining employment activities—paid jobs and volunteer opportunities—for adults with disabilities. Each weekday Marcus and an INALLIANCE Employment Training Specialist are out in the community alternating between the 2 paid jobs and 3 volunteer jobs that Marcus attends each week.

The Sacramento Marina is the largest, public off-the-river inland marina in northern California, with 475 slips 25’ to 50’ long. For more information on the Sacramento Marina,
