Inauguration of Underground (Green Line) Metro Rail Services from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park on

14.05.2017

The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Hon'ble Union Minister of Urban Development inaugurated the passenger services on the first Underground Section in Green Line from Koyambedu to Nehru Park (7.4 KMs) of Chennai Metro Rail

Project- Phase-I on 14-5-2017.

The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Hon'ble Union Minister of Urban Development flagged off the first train from Thirumangalam Metro

Station on 14.05.2017 and declared open the Metro Stations from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park for Passenger Services.

Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting inaugurated the

Underground Metro stretch from Koyambedu to Nehru Park on

14.05.2017.

This inauguration marks the first underground stretch in the Green

Line of the Phase I of CMRL Project to be opened for passenger

services.

A total of 7.4 kms of underground stretch from Koyambedu to Nehru

Park has been inaugurated. The entire elevated stretch of Phase 1

from Koyambedu to St. Thomas Mount, Little Mount to Airport is

already in operation.

Thiru M.C Sampath, for Industries, visited the

Underground Green Line Metro between Thirumangalam and

Nehru Park Metro Rail Stations on 09.05.17.

The Hon’ble Minister inspected the works in progress at the

metro stations and safety measures taken at the stations and

facilities present in the metro stations.

Metro Rail utilizes;

1. Lowest carbon emission amongst various modes of mass transport.

2. Causes no air pollution in the city. Provides for very high passenger

capacity.

Chennai Metro Rail app provides the customers of

metro services with plenty of useful information

that helps in using the metro services.

Following are the different sections in the app and

the information available in them.

Route between stations – selecting the starting

and destination stations will display the user the

fares, distance, approximate travel time, stations

in between with changeover station and the route

map with plotting of the route on the map.

Station Info- selecting a station will give you various useful information about the

station like First and last train timings, Platforms, Gates and Directions, contact

numbers, tourist spots near that station, parking, feeder services etc.

Nearest metro station – This section will show you the nearest metro station from

your current location.

Other useful information to the user namely Metro Stations, Routes, Fares, nearby

metro locations, train timings, feeder services, Parking, travel card recharge, Tourist

spots, Weather Forecast etc are also available in the Mobile App.

AG-DMS Station

Track Work Progress

Blue Line

In the underground sect ion between Saidapet ramp to Washermenpet, out of 28466m, track slab has been completed for the length of 5501m in between Saidapet to AG-DMS and Washermanpet to Mayday park track preliminary works in progress.

Track work has been completed between Saidapet ramp to AG-DMS in Downline.

Green Line

In the underground section between Thirumangalam ramp and Chennai central, out of 19888m, Track work has been completed for the length of 16443m with 10 turnouts.

DEPOT

Track work has been completed for entire depot length of 14606m with 41 turnouts.

rd Nehru Park Metro Station is the 3 metro

station in the underground stretch on the

Green Line of Phase I of Chennai Metro Rail

Project.

This station is among the newly inaugurated

underground metro station in the Green Line

from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount. This

station services the neighborhoods of Egmore

and Purasaiwakkam.

The station is located on Periyar EVR High Road

also known as Poonamallee High Road which is

one of the main arterial roads on Chennai

connecting Maduravoyal bypass junction on the

west end and Muthuswamy Bridge near Madras

Medical College at Part Town in the East end.

The Nehru Park Metro Station is located below

the Nehru Park and has brought a new

dimension to the area in the form of a Public

Transit leading to major changes in the urban

environment in and around the neighborhoods

of Egmore and Purasaiwakkam as well.

The station is situated next to several

important places namely Sangam Multiplex,

Kilpauk G3 Police Station, Nehru Park and

Gengu Reddy Road and Sports Development

Authority. Indian Squash Academy and

Residential complexes to name a few.
