Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

Incarnation Parish Invites You to Our 2018 Mission: “A Journey in the Footsteps of St. Peter.” Nov 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30PM. St. Peter is one of the most profitable characters in Scripture to meditate on. His journey can help us to learn more about our Faith and the response Our Lord wants us to give to the individual call He makes to each one of us. Come to the mission and see how St. Peter’s example can teach you how to improve your spir-itual life and become a better disciple of the Lord all year long. All sessions should last one hour and will be preached by Fr. McCartney, Pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Roslyn.

A SALUTE TO ALL VETERANS will take place at the 10:30 Mass today. We warmly invite those women and men who have generously served us in the armed forces to come forth and be recognized for their bravery and selflessness at the 10:30 Mass today as Veter-

ans’ Day falls on a Sunday this year. Our prayers and ap-preciation go with you wherever that may be.

Veterans’ Day Observance will be Monday, November 12. Both the academy and parish offices will be closed. The church will also close early that day.

Bring a Friend to Church!

From the Pastor’s Pen

Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace.

With the return to Standard Time last week and the shortening of daylight it reminds me of the beauty of the night. I enjoy daylight like the next person but there is something special about nighttime. I first appreciated it when I was in the Navy. It is Veterans’ Day, right! There is something peaceful and awe inspiring about the stars or the moon while you’re sailing on the seas. During those hours the Navy has a long standing tradition of Night Prayers. Every vessel at sea pauses for prayer at 10PM (2200 hours for you nautical buffs). The short non-sectarian prayer offered by the chaplain - no more than two minutes - is a way to thank God for the safety of the day, and to ask God’s protection during the night. It was always moving to see how many of the young sailors and Marines would stop, close their eyes, oftentimes with a visible sigh of comfort and relief mindful that God was watching over them. The Church also has Night Prayers, that are recited by the Sisters, Deacons, Father Chris and myself. They, too, thank God for the blessings of the day and ask protection through the night. But they also have a short examination of conscience to reflect on the day’s actions. How can I be a better person tomorrow if I cannot remember what I need to improve on from today? Perhaps growing up you prayed with your parents before bed. Maybe the comfort of mom and dad is better remembered than what was shared with God. Nevertheless, Night Prayers or Bedtime Prayers are a great opportunity to consciously share the closing day with God, both in thanksgiving and supplication. So if you have fallen away from prayer at day’s end, maybe the beautiful darkness is just the reminder you need. God Bless and God Bless our Vets!

The Annual Catholic Appeal: Answer the Call! Please join us in our support of the various ministries and outreaches of the diocese which cannot be undertaken alone here at Incarnation. Use the form below and simply put it in an envelope marked “Catholic Appeal,” drop the gift in the collec-tion and the parish will send it to the Appeal Office. Envelopes are also by the doors of the church today. You may mail your pledge directly to 310 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Our Parish Goal is 500 pledges. Please be one of them. Give a gift today. All monies collected over goal will stay here at the parish. Even a small or one tine gift is both needed and most appreciated.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a con-tinual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of

the newly restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for addi-tional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. See the blue brochure by the church doors or contact the rectory for more info: 718-465-8534.

The Shepherd Speaks

Let us ask the Lord to admit us to the school of this poor widow, whom Jesus places in the cathedra and presents as a teacher of the living Gospel even to the astonishment of the disciples. Through the intercession of Mary, the poor woman who gave her entire life to God for us, let us ask for a heart that is poor, but rich in glad and freely given generosity.

CONFIRMATION COMMITMENT ceremony for the class of 2019 will take place at the 10:30 AM Mass next Sunday. Please support them. Prayer cards with each candidate’s name will be in the back of the church. Please take a prayer card and pray for the candidate through-out their preparation for Confirmation.

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know our-selves. You know the cares and suf-ferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us from you. Heal us from every form of sin and vio-lence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love, freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice. We believe you are doing something new, calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life. Amen.

Parents’ Meeting for the Confirmation Class of 2019

Next Sunday at 9AM in Msgr. Griffin Hall

COLDS AND COMMON SENSE. As we begin to pass through the winter months and flu season, please remember to refrain from receiving the Precious Blood from the chal-ice, and even exchanging the sign of peace if not feeling well. Your neighbor will under-stand and thank you.

WHITE WELCOME ENVELOPES are located in the church for those who are new in the parish, for those who would like to receive weekly envelopes and for those who may have forgotten their envelope today.

LEFTOVER DECORATIONS. Now that Halloween is over you may be wondering what to do with your holiday

decorations. At the church we have begun our harvest decorating and we will gladly accept your pumpkins, corn stalks, gourds, etc. that are still in good shape. Feel free to drop your deco-rations at the Parish Office during the week.

Gifts from Bethlehem Sale—Nov 24 & 25. Samer Awwad; a representative from a nonprofit organiza-

tion called Land of Peace will be with us speaking about the Christian situa-tion in the Holy Land and selling Cru-cifixes, religious art work, and rosar-ies- all made of olive wood which is

native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. The goal of this mission is to build a Charitable Hospital in Bethlehem and help the poor and needy families in Bethlehem and Jerusa-lem. Sale of these goods will help them very much and also give you the opportunity to have “something” authen-tic from the Holy Land. Please browse and buy some arti-cles. It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. For more information please see Website: www.landofpeace.org and www.bcfmission.com

SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS. As Part of the Church’s call to evangelization we invite you to take an extra bulletin to a friend or neighbor in the community who may inquire about Incarnation. Also, check in on our elderly folks and those others affected by the warm weather by making a phone call or visit.

2019 MASS BOOK IS OPEN. The opportunity to pray in a special way for the repose of the soul of a loved one or other prayerful intention is made available each day with announced Mass offerings. You may choose to commemo-rate a death anniversary, wedding anniversary, birthday remembrance or simply pray in thanksgiving. Each offer-ing is $15.00. Please come to the Parish Office to make special Mass offerings for your loved ones. You may also inquire about dedicating the Altar candles, bread & wine or the sanctuary lamp.

HOSPITALITY SUNDAY takes place next Sunday fol-lowing all the morning Masses. Please join us in Msgr. Nolan Hall and share in some breakfast items, coffee, tea and juices as well as each other’s company. We thank the Haitian Prayer Group and Youth Group for sponsoring our November Hospitality Sunday.

Memorials During the Week. Because the parish Mass Intentions fill in so quickly there is now the opportunity to memorialize the Altar Candles, the Offerings of Bread and Wine and the Sanctuary Lamps. Please contact the Parish Office. All intentions will be listed here in the bulletin. The offering for each are the same at $25.

Parish Registration ~ We invite anyone who at-tends our Masses to register in our parish. This will give you the opportunity to be acquainted with the various events, ministers and activities of our parish and enable us to serve you better with your needs.

CHRISTIAN INITIATION. Do you know a family member or friend who is interested in becoming a Catholic? The Rite of Chris-tian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a wonder-ful process in our parish available to those who feel called to the Catholic Faith. New inquiry sessions have begun. The RCIA is also available for those Catholics who have not yet received First Eucharist or Confirmation. Call the Rel Ed Office (718-465-8534) for more info.

ALL SOULS ENVELOPES are available in the church to-day. In November we remem-ber and pray for the souls of the dead especially our family members, friends and fellow parishioners. Feel free to take an envelope and fill in the names of your beloved dead whom you wish to have prayers offered during November. Return the envelope with your offering in the collection basket or at the Parish Office. All Souls’ Day is Friday, November 2.

CAR REBATES– MY CAR WENT TO HEAVEN! The St. Vincent DePaul Society will give $50-$100 to Incarnation for each car, truck or van (running or not). If you or someone you know has an old or neglected vehicle that needs disposal please call the Society of St. Vincent DePaul at 718-491-2525.

Box Tops for Education. Everyone is asked to gather BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION from their favorite brand food labels. There are two boxes in the ves-tibule of the church to place your box tops and this will provide added revenue to our school. Thank you for your help.

MINISTRY OF HOSPITALITY. Those who are inter-ested in the Ministry of Hospi-tality to welcome visitors and parishioners to our doors at Sunday Mass are asked to con-

tact Father O’Connor for more information. This ministry is a result of the Parish Assembly and parishioners’ desire to make Incarnation a more welcoming place.

New Nativity Statues. To help cel-ebrate our Parish Feast, the Liturgy Committee last year decided to get additional figures for the Nativity sce-ne to be placed in our church each Christmas. If anyone would like to memorialize any of the new Nativity statues please contact the rectory. A plaque hangs each Christmas Season near the Nativity with the listing of the individuals to remember in prayer. Available for Memori-alizing: Shepherds, ox, ass, sheep and lamb. Please check with Fr. O’Connor for more information.
