Integrated Rural Development Programme

Highlights:

1. The Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) aims at

providing self-employment to the rural poor

2. Assistance is provided in the form of subsidy and bank credit.

25 % - small farmers,

33.33% - marginal farmers, agricultural labourers and rural artisans

50 % - Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes & physically handicapped persons.

NREGA100 days of work guarantee to any rural adult willing to do public

work at Rs.120 per day in 2009 prices.

The Central government outlay for scheme is 40,000 crore FY

2010-11.

HUL helped state owned Khadi Board through an advisory

relationship with the government of Madhya Pradesh.

Uttam Bandhan , launched by the K.K. Birla group's in Rajasthan

which trains unemployed rural youth as extension workers.

ITC’s “Sunehra Kal” is a social forestry project which was

launched around its Bhadrachalam plant in Andhra Pradesh.


Participation of Private sector

BPCL works in far-flung village areas to provide education at the

best possible manner .

Companies like BPCL, Indian oil, ITC, Colgate, HUL, Chambal

fertilizers also started various programme to provide aid to the

poor.

In the year 1998 Colgate started project Jagruti , the rural

hygiene drive along with the Indian dental Association.

This project covers 60 lakh people in 20,000 villages, out

of which 15,000 villages had no experience to the availability of

toothpaste and tooth powder.
