From the Principal…
I wanted to begin the last newsletter by congratulating the graduating Class of 2018 on their wonderful successes and
achievements. Yesterday we acknowledged all our students and presented the highest awards at the Graduation
Ceremony. As always choosing the recipients is an ardours task as we have so many worthy candidates; however, the
choices were made and the awardees are named in this newsletter, Congratulations!
I would like to thank our Student Leadership team on leading our
student community so well this year. In particular, our head girl and
head boy, Mya Yamauchi and Leo Clark and our Deputies Cara
Tucker and Alexander Rock. These leadership roles take a lot of
commitment and time and they have done themselves proud.
On Tuesday night we had the graduation dinner at the MAAC and it
was a wonderful celebration. Our students were a credit to the
school with their beautiful manners and behaviour. Once dinner was
finished, the dance floor was busy for the whole evening, as our
students put into practice, all the wonderful moves they learned
during their dance lessons. It was a very happy occasion that was
enjoyed by all students and staff who attended. I would like to thank
Mr Righton and Ms Coleman-Brown for the wonderful organisation of
the evening. Thank you also to the parents who decorated the MAAC
so as to make the celebratory evening such a successful event.
Farewell
Unfortunately, at this time of the year we farewell staff who have worked at Poynter PS. Thank you to Mr Riley, who has
done an exceptional job as our PE specialist over the last two and a half years. He is to be commended for leading our
students and the school to so much success. I would also like to thank him for all his hard work, particularly before and
after school. Many of our sporting successes this year can be attributed to his contribution. I wish him well.
We also farewell and thank Mr Avery. For the short time that Mr Avery has been at Poynter PS he has made a significant
contribution to the Arts. I hope that you all got a chance to attend the Art Exhibition last week which show cased all of our
students’ achievements.
Changes for 2019
2019 will be a year that we continue to implement programs and structures to further enhance positive outcomes for all
our students. There are minimal changes to our staffing profile but we welcome Ms Wendy Bray, our new Art Specialist
and Mr Gareth James our new PE Specialist. I am sure that you will get to know them very well next year.
From the Principal cont… Parent Information Booklet
Our new Parent Information Booklet for 2019 will go up on our website and on our App at the beginning of the year. Please
take the time to read through the booklet to make sure that you are aware of what we do, how we do it and where to go to if
you have any questions. There are minimal changes to our operational ways; however, the most significant is the change in
the dates of our School Development Days, please make note of these.
Lastly I would like to thank all my staff for their hard work and support in 2018. Parents may I remind you that a kind word or
email goes a long way at this time of the year. “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” (DL)
Just to lay a rumour to rest that I heard yesterday, No I am not leaving Poynter PS, as I have always said, unless you hear it
from me, it is not true!
Thank you to all of you for your wonderful support and I wish you all a safe holiday, a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous
New year. Keyla Jeffers

FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD
It has been a privilege to represent the parents on the Poynter Primary Board this year. I would firstly like to congratulate
all of the students on another great year. It is all of your hard work and effort that makes Poynter such a great school. To
our graduating Year 6 students, we wish you all the best for your high school studies.
To all of the teachers, staff and others who work tirelessly behind the scenes, I am sure I speak on behalf of the whole
school community when we thank you for everything you have done during the year in making it such a success.
Congratulations should also go to the parents for surviving another year of battling the kids each and every morning to get
ready for school and dealing with that last minute surprise request that our children like to tell us about just before it is
needed at school. To those of you who are on the P&C, help with the market and assist the school in anyway, thank you
for everything you do in making our school the success that it is.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday break and look forward to another successful 2019. John Ward
Chairperson

THANK YOU
I would like to start with a big thank-you to Lisa Amin (P&C Vice-President) for taking over the reins whilst I stepped to the

have got through the year without our team effort!
A BIG thank you to Kellie Hardy who has been our P&C Treasurer for the past few years. Kellie says good-bye to Poynter
this year and has done an amazing job at coordinating the P&C finances. Also, welcome to Gabby Lawrence who is
training with Kellie to become Treasurer formally next year at the AGM. Thank you to Sandra Scriba, Colleen Pearson, Ali
Coton, Vicki O’Neill for being apart of the Executive Committee. Thank you to Nat Gasmier and Kristy Sanderson for
coordinating the teachers lunch on Friday, 7 December. Thank you to all our other coordinators, parents/ careers/

POYNTER PRIMARY FARMERS’ MARKET - NEXT MARKET 15 DECEMBER Hello from the Market.
It is that time of year again when we host our Christmas Fete. This year we have a wonderful variety of gift stalls with
some very unusual gift ideas on offer to you.
We will also have a variety of food for you to choose from as T Sisters Fresh and Cariocas Brazilian Barbecue join our
regulars to offer even more variety on the day.
The kids will have lots of fun as well as we have Farmtastic Party Hire bringing the farm animals for a visit and Wonderland
bringing down two Bouncy Castles. Mindful Makers will also have mini craft sessions as well as a visit from Santa.
Please share this event with family and friends and come down and make a morning of it. As usual we will have the very
talented Three Sides playing a variety of Christmas songs for us.
We will continue to have Markets on the 29th December and the 12th of January. Next year, Australia Day fall on our
Market Day, so we have decided to close on that day. Our next Market after that will be our big Birthday Market on the 9th
February as Poynter Farmers Market turns Eight!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that have supported the Market by either attending or volunteering for
the P&C Stall or just by helping us get the word out there.
On behalf of the Market team, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year. Have
a wonderful holiday break!
See you at the Market.

2018 City of Joondalup Interschool Tennis Competition
Last Friday December 7th our School Tennis Team competed against 7 other schools at Sorrento Tennis Club. Well done to
our players who showed outstanding sportsmanship. Many thanks to the parents who helped out with coaching and scor-
ing roles. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and the event would not have been successful without your support.
