CHAPTER 2INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS
CHAPTER 2 INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS
2.1 General
The order in which exercise are arranged in the table above represents the course in idealconditions of weather, aircraft serviceability and student availability.
Instructors may vary the order of progression through the syllabus subject to the followingrestrictions:
– Recoveries from stalls must have been demonstrated and practised before solo;
– Before 80 nm or solo cross - country flight the student must have been given dualtraining on two different aerodromes, operation at minimum altitude (navigation atlower levels), an unscheduled diversion and lost procedure.
2.2 Briefing
Immediately prior each flight, a pre-flight briefing is to be given. This briefing will include detailsof the order in which the exercise will be flown, the division of responsibility during the flightand the expected standards to be achieved.
Airmanship, TEM and flight safety consideration are to be included in pre-flight briefings.
When conducting any briefing, the following objectives should be met:
– aim of the lesson;
– plan of the lesson, including exercises, route of the flight;
– technique and key-points of the exercises to be completed;
– revision of the notes and remarks from the previous exercises;
– safety briefing, identifying flight - and exercise-specific threats;
– questions from student.
Pre-flight briefing shall be:
– as efficient as possible in terms of content and information provided;
– positive and encouraging;
– time-efficient (around 30 min)
NOTE: In case if student is not fully prepared for the flight lesson, instructor may cancel thetraining flight or offer a revised plan for the training flight, subject to student'sacceptance.
2.3 De-briefing
As well as completing after-flight administration (completion of logbooks, technical recordsetc.), it is essential that the student is left in no doubt to his performance during the flight andany areas that require more work. The content of debriefing must match the correspondingentry in the students training record.
During post-flight briefing following subjects shall be discussed:
TMG ATO Training Manual Effective date: 01-Apr-2016
2 – 2REV 0
CHAPTER 2INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS
– comments and remarks regarding completed lesson;
– student’s progress and results;
– any problems or faults, providing methods for improvement;
– questions from student;
– topics of the next lesson;
2.4 Flight Instructions
Flight instruction will compromise demonstration and student practise of the individual flightexercise. Where degree of control movement is critical to the successful outcome ofmanoeuvre, the instructor may require the student to "follow through" (i.e. feel the movementof the controls being made by the instructor).
