India – A Powerhouseof Health careInnovationsWith the talent, infrastructure, academic and research capabilities and demand, India has the potential to become a powerhouse of health care innovations. Cost effective, easy to deploy and scalable solutions that address pressing healthcare challenges of the Country.

The Government of India has placed priority on innovation and entrepreneurship. The “National IPR Policy” aims to accelerate innovation, generation of intellectual property and awareness on IPR. “Startup India”, launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister aims at fostering entrepreneurship and promoting innovation by creating an ecosystem that is conducive for the growth of Start-ups.

The Pfizer IIT-Delhi Innovation and IP Program is an industry-academia collaboration that is supported by the “Startup India” program. An endeavor that will contribute to the realization of these important ambitions for India.

1. Companies ActCSR Provisions under Section 135 & its impact on Pfizer India

Applicable to every company incorporated in India with either: ► Net worth of $80 mn (INR 500 crore) or more or;► Turnover of $160 mn (INR 1000 crore) or more or;► Net profit of $0.8 mn (INR 5 crore) or more.

*Average net profit to be calculated as per Section 198 of the Companies Act

Impact on Pfizer:

ØPfizer to spend ~ $ 1.2 mn on CSR activities for the FY 2016-17

ØPfizer spent ~ $ 1mn on CSR activities during FY 2015-16

Annual Required CSR Spend:► Every financial year, at least 2% of the * average

net profits made during the three preceding financial years

3. Pfizer India CSR Strategic Example:Pfizer IIT Delhi Innovation & IP Program

Pfizer – IIT DelhiInnovation & IP Program Is an incubation acceleratorco-created by Pfizer Ltd. and Foundation for Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi.

Two components of the programa. For innovators seeking support

to translate health care ideas into new business opportunities

b. For innovators who already have a proof of concept & looking for only IP related support

Program supports Health care InnovationsFunding, resources, expertise and infrastructure – that

allows innovators in India to bring their healthcare ideas to life and create patents

Initial unencumbered* funding commitment of upto $80,000 to each innovator to:

a. Provide innovators with residency for up to 2 years at the IIT Delhi Technology Incubator

b. Support incubation from birth stage, through prototyping to go-to-market including support for patent filing

c. Publish communication to invite proposals & raise awareness on the programme

Unencumbered* – Patents once obtained belong to innovators. Pfizer shall not have any claim on the patents nor own any equity in the resulting commercialization.

A novel wearable device for protection fromthe respiratory hazards of air pollution:A novel wearable device, with unique air-purification technology for minimizing the inhalation of air-pollutants.Through its design, the device will ensure effectiveness, comfort and pleasing aesthetics to motivate users for regularusage.
