Congratulations

Congratulations to Rev. Chet Todd andthe Mecca New Life Wesleyan Church inreceiving the prestigious “Hamilton Com-munity Award.” The church is dedicated tothe community through such things as a foodpantry and clothes closet for people in imme-diate need. The church also is working onhaving a bus outfitted to provide a portableclothes closet that will go where the need is.These are a few of the many communityefforts displayed by the church.

T.E.A.M Trip 2005By Pastor Ed Boston

This year’s trip was the first for me. Hopefully it will not be the last, as I had awonderful time getting to know some of the pastors better, and meeting some forthe very first time.

After loading at 7:30 a.m. at the Orleans Campground, we were on our way by8:00 a.m. Thursday to visit Southeast Christian Church in Louisville. Having BobRussell at our Ministerial Convention two years ago, it was a fantastic experienceto tour the campus of this church that runs approximately 22,000 each weekend.

Our tour guide led us through several areas of the building; a history room,the chapel (which was bigger than most all of our churches), the different youthdepartments, the sanctuary that seats 9,100, the bookstore, and finally up to BobRussell’s office to have lunch with Bob.

This was possibly the best 2-hour lunch that I can remember, and it wasn’t thefood that was doing the nourishing. Pastor Bob spent these two hours asking usas many questions as we asked him. I think he enjoyed the time just a much aseach of us did. He is truly a humble servant, and I’m sure that if you were to askeach person on the trip, all of us could tell you something different we learnedfrom one of God’s chosen servants.

After leaving Louisville, we stopped at Clays Mill Baptist Church in Lexington.We were treated to another tour and had a time of fellowship with the pastor who isin charge of the outreach/evangelism program for the church. It was while we werehere that one of the “key phrases” for the trip was heard first. We learned that the“Double Stink” (a petting farm) is a good thing. The story is way too long to tell inthis space, but I think we used that phrase more than any other the rest of the trip.

That evening we drove on to Gatlinburg, TN, and spent two nights in a condobigger than most parsonages. Friday’s weather was a gift from God for the trip.Beautiful sunshine in the mountains, white clouds that looked like a picture, thetemperature wasn’t too warm or cool, and we were blessed with great fellowshipwith one another.

I would be remiss not to mention that our very own Jim Hughes from Green-wood became a star while we were at the Comedy Barn. He was called on stage, andwords cannot describe the way he “stole the show.” However, there is a DVD float-ing around and rumor has it that it could be used at any time to show Jim’s talent!

This trip was just what the Lord had ordered for me. Rest, fun, fellowship, tours,examples of how God is working in other places, and a safe return to work for HIM!

I recently heard the story of an African boy who could not understand whyChristians gave gifts at Christmas. His teacher explained, “A gift is an expressionof our joy over the birth of Jesus and our friendship for one another.”

When Christmas came, the boy brought the teacher a seashell of rare beauty.“Where did you find such a beautiful shell?” she asked. When he named theplace, a certain bay several miles away, the teacher was left speechless. “Why,it’s gorgeous; but you shouldn’t have gone all that way to get a gift for me.” Hiseyes brightened, and boy answered, “Long walk—part of gift.”
