‘THE CONJURING’

The scene begins with a complete black

out and a muffled sound in the

background of what sounds like

women’s voices, this builds suspense

as the viewer automatically becomes

interested about what’s going on

already. This is a convention of a

thriller film because the audience is

left on tenterhooks and they want to

know what happens next.

‘THE CONJURING’

After approximately half a minute there is a

sudden loud noise and half of a toy clowns face

appears. It looks old and antique, this suggests

that it may be possessed as you can’t see the

whole face- it may be creeping up or watching

you. Use of a sound sting is often used in

horror and thriller films to frighten the audience.

‘THE CONJURING’

The image slowly becomes distorted and focuses on the

three women talking, they are young looking, naïve ladies

that don’t really understand exactly what’s going on.

Many thriller horror films have many innocent women as

victims because the audience relates to them better. They

go on to explain how they allowed a ghost or spirit to live

inside one of their dolls. They begin to laugh about it

when the interviewers don’t take this as a joke, this

begins to scare the women and diegetic atmospheric

music begins to play in the background.

Repeated long shots of the doll remind the

audience of the focus of the film. The fact the

doll does not move unnerves the viewer

because they may be expecting the doll to start

walking or crawling like ‘Chucky’ from the

‘Child’s play’ franchise. The doll is almost

playing the part of the antagonist although it

seems impossible as it is not a living thing, this

creates a sinister mood.

‘THE CONJURING’

This film links to our thriller as we aim to base it

around a possessed little girl, which links to the

idea of the doll and how she is haunting the

members of the household and may have death

living inside her. Throughout the film you see

ghosts and spirits in corners of the room

watching the family living in the house. As our

initial ideas stand, we will be doing this by

having a little girl watching people that are

playing or running through the forest.
