ABOUT OLF
• Part of the Indian Ordinance Organization• Functions Under The Department Of Defense Production Of
Ministry Of Defense, Government Of India.
• Established to meet the growing demands of armed forces for better tanks and armored vehicle.
• Olf was awarded ISO-9002 on 16th january,94 from BID, New Delhi.
• It is only one of its kinds of factory in India, and has Opto vacuum Coating plant, which is single in Asia.
INDIAN TANKS
BHISHMA T-80
AJAY MARK I
LASER RANGE FINDER( PART OF TPDK-1)
Introduction• Abbreviated as Telescopic
Periscopic Device .
• Works as a periscope as well as a telescope.
• Also called Laser Range Finder.
• Main heart Of Battle Tank T-72 called the “AJEYA”.
• Operates at a temperature ranging from -30 °c to +50°c.

RANGE MEASURING UNIT
PRINCIPLE USED is Time Interval Counter
Time interval dt is b/w the moment laser starts radiating and the moment light pulse is reflected from the target by the time interval counter.
Time interval compromises of a reference frequency oscillator (15MHz) and an electric pulse counter of this oscillator.
The pulse counter is automatically switched on at the moment the laser starts radiating and switched off when reflected signal from the target is received.
FORMULA USED TO DETERMINE RANGE R=VnT /2
RANGE INPUT UNIT
Range input finder processes the analog signal from the optically measured distance.
Controls the motors of the distance correction device DELTA D
DELTA D sets the distance measuring scale and the ballistics cams automatically on the desired value during distance setting.
PRINCIPAL OF RANGE MEASUREMENT BY LASER Based on the method of photo or light
detecting and ranging. Determination of range is done through
measuring the time interval for which light impulse passes the path from sight to target and back. Main parts of LRFa.OPTICAL QUANTUM GENERATOR(LASER)b.PHOTO RECEIVING DEVICEc.TIME INTERVAL MEARSURER
BLOCK -D• It is the laser producing unit.• Has 3 main parts:i. Collimatorii. Emitter, andiii. Receiver
PARTS OF BLOCK-D
CAPACITOR POWER SUPPLY UNIT
• DC-DC convertor• Aim: to produce an i/p of +27V and o/p of+1550V
IGNITION UNIT
• Generates 8-12 KV dc supply for flash of laser lamp.• Derived by the o/p of +1550V from CPSU.
PULSE AMPLIFIER• Type of video amplifier.• Receives and amplifies the single pulse signal, that comes after hitting the target.• Can work at temp of -40°c to +50°c and humidity 95-98%.
AUTOMATIC BLOCK UNIT
• Works as a comparator• Compares the i/p signal with feedback signal
of CPSU.
PHOTO DIODE
• Two terminal p-n junction device.• It converts the light into electric current• Works under reverse bias
PULSE SENSOR
• Senses the received pulse and sends it to the pulse amplifier.
WHAT IF LRF DOESN’T WORKS??
• Has a STADIA RANGE FINDER TO THE rescue.
• With distance indicators range 4000-5000m
• This and manual gun will still work even if all aiming system have lost power.
GYROSTABLIZER
Used to keep the barrel of the tank even if the tank in is motion.
Keeps the barrel stable even in heavy jerking.
Consists of gyro motor, four coils, shot permit contact.
RANGE MEASURING UNIT• Distance of the target is displayed on RMU.• Calculated by taking the difference b/w start and stop signal.
POWER SUPPLY UNIT• Provides necessary voltage to various units of LRF.
ELECTRO BLOCK UNIT• Changes the position and firing range of barrel according to change in position of
the target
HAND AUTOMOTIVE UNIT• The handle can rotate 180° on either sides thus enabling the barrel of the tank to
rotate 360° without actually turning of the tank.
LASER
Abbreviated as light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation
Amplified version of unidirectional, monochromatic and coherent light.
Types of laser are SOLID,GAS AND LIQUID LASER LRF uses solid laser.
