ANA WHITE – PROJECT 4 2017 DIY Industrial Pipe Light Summary We couldn’t find the perfect light for our rustic farmhouse/industrial bathroom design, so decided to DIY it. For about $30 we were able to make the perfect light fixture with just basic tools and no electrician needed! Description This DIY industrial light fixture is beautiful and unique, but easy and economical to make. The wood board also allows the fixture to be installed offset on the box so you can center your bath fixture even if your lightbox is off.

Step1:Cutthe1x6boardto24”inlengthwithcircularsaworcompoundmitersaw.Sandanyroughedges.Prefinishasdesired.

Step2:Secureboardtoaworksurfaceanddrillholeswherelightfixtureswillbelocatedontheboard.Idrilledmine6-1/2”infromeachend,centeredontheboard.Iuseda1”holesaw,butyoucanalsouseaforstnerbitorspadebit.

Step3:Setyourcircularsawbitto½”depth.Makecutsbetweenthetwodrilledholesonthebacksideofthe1x6board,aboutevery¼”.Removematerialwithachiseltocreateachannelbetweenthedrilledholes.

Step4:Ialsocreatedanopeningatthetopoftheboardforassistingwithwireplacementoninstallation.Imadecuts¼”deepwithacircularsaw,every¼”ontopofchannelandremovedmaterialwithachisel.

Thiscompletespreparationofwoodboard.

Step5:Screwstreetelbowintothefloorflange.Makesuretheelbowissymmetricaltothescrewholesontheflange,andnoscrewholesarecoveredbytheflange.

Step6:Insertwiresoflightsocketintoelbowendandcarefullythreadthrough.Snapsocketinsidetheelbowendandpullwirestight.

Step7:Placelightfixturesonboardandsecuretotheboardwith¾”woodscrews.

Step8:Turnoffbreakerforlightboxandmakesureswitchisturnedoff.Wirethesocketwirestotheelectricalboxinwallwithwirenuts,asyouwouldanystandardlightfixture.Makesurewirenutsaretuckedbackinsidelightbox,withonlyfixtureandsocketwiresoutsideoflightbox.

Step9:Usingastudfinder,marklocationofstudsinwall.Screwwoodboardtostudsinwallusing2”orlongerwoodscrews.

Step10:Tuckwiresinontopofwoodboardifnecessary.

Step11:Installlightbulbs.Turnonbreakerforlightbox.Turnonswitchtoensurelightworksproperly.
