what conclusions plato drew for the methodology of natural sciences

forms- you cant know if anything is changing, so if you have knowledge it must be of

something unchanging.

you can only know through reason alone

Plato doesnt think that natural science will get you knowledge as it relies on natural

science which relies on experimentation and observation. he explains astronomy using

mathematical models but this doesnt mean that astronomy is only math. (passage 29b)

change for Aristotle is just change in the properties of the object as he believed that

objects are the ones that have the properties.

connection between motion and the global features of the physical universe

violent and natural motion, circular motion of the planets. the plants use some kind ofsubstance- they are made of aether and this is what causes them to move. he is using

properties to explain this motion. properties here refer to the global feature of the

universe. Platos conception of motion were much harder to explain due to his realm of

forms bull. Since these forms are unchanging, they cannot explain this change on the

real world. They are causally isolated to the sensible world.
