Travel Scholarship & Research Presentations General Requirements

• Be an undergraduate, postbaccalaureate (3 years max. since degree), graduate

student or postdoctoral researcher (5 years max. since degree)

• Be pursuing an education/career in STEM or a related field

• Good academic standing (students)

• Be enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university in Fall 2014 (students)

or be able to provide proof of degree completion (students & postdocs).

Abstract Submission Requirements: Spring & Summer Application

Apply for: • Oral Presentation (Grad students) • Poster Presentation (Undergrad & Grad students)

*** You will have until the submissions deadline to make any edits or changes on your abstract. Information required:

• SACNAS ID (This can be found in your SACNAS profile). • Research mentor and co-authors’ contact information. • Department Chair contact information (home institution). • College Dean contact information (home institution).

Abstract Submission Requirements: Spring Application

Abstracts must contain at least 2 authors, including presenting author, research mentor or co-authors. All undergrad, post-bac, and grad students abstract submissions are reviewed on a scale of 1 to 5, based on the criteria outlined below (Postdoc researcher abstracts are not reviewed): 1. A hypothesis or statement about the problem under investigation, 2. A statement of the experimental methods/materials used, 3. Results provided in summary form (even if preliminary), 4. Conclusion. *** You need to score at least 3/5 to be considered. *** 250 words max.

Undergraduate Summer Research Abstract Submission Guidelines • Summer Program Enrollment Period (May 20-June 5)

o The program director will need to complete a form to receive a code for students to submit the application (Contact him/her before the enrollment period).

Summer Program Enrollment Eligibility: Undergraduates summer research programs (i.e. NSF-REU, NIH-R25) must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the summer application period: • Include a summer research component (late May – August) • Have a formalized application & acceptance process.

What doesn’t the SACNAS Travel grant cover?

• Conference Registration o $315 – Students which aren’t SACNAS Member o $265 – SACNAS student member
