I t’s just five months since we hosted a party cele-brating our 15th anniversary and since then much has happened. Our warehouse and office complex

in Sofia has officially opened, of which more in this issue; once again we held our UnitCargo Academy in Nove Zamky, Slovakia; we co-sponsored the Forum Green Logistics and hosted a party to celebrate the first anniversary of our Serbian branch office in Bel-grade. Apart from that, planning has started for our Christmas party. If all that seems far removed from our work as a logistics provider, I can report that our business continues to grow, far exceeding the expec-tations I had when I began. In fact it would be true to say that I never anticipated such growth. Though in the beginning competition was fierce, today it is fierc-er, regulations are increasing, there is an acute driver shortage and the dream of open borders within the Schengen area have become something of a night-mare with ever increasing border delays. Yet care-ful observation of our marketing material reveals we have, to a large extent, reduced our services to the area beyond the Balkans. The reason for this is very

simple. We are increasing our focus on our core busi-ness, full truck loads, and aim to achieve greater mar-ket penetration within our established corridor area linking Scandinavia to the Balkans, Western Europe to the CEE area. Adding a second branch office in Po-land enables us to dive deeper into this, the market in which we are most successful.Of course, the key to our success is found within our credo: “We believe in a better logistics world created by the natural talents of intelligent people” and it is the passion of our international team to be the best which has enabled us to achieve it. The year 2018 saw 78 team members in 6 regional offices and a turnover of 40 million euros. 2019 will see a small increase the number of team members but an increased turnover to over 50 million euros. A major achievement of which we are all proud.

CEO Davor Sertic

I n May 2019, UnitCargo celebrated its 15th anni-versary with an event held at CrossFit Area 23 in Vösendorf (Austria), a venue selected since, as

many people will know, UnitCargo is a big promoter of sportsmanship. The party was attended by guests from politics, economy and logistics as well as cus-tomers, business partners and the UnitCargo team. The event began with a glass of champagne mixed with orange juice – matching the colour of the Unit-Cargo logo.Presenting the event, Bernd Winter, editor in chief of the weekly magazine “Verkehr” in-troduced UnitCargo CEO Davor Sertic who thanked all the special people who had helped UnitCargo in its mission to create a better lo-gistics world over the past 15 years. He also re-minded everybody of the modest vision he had at the very beginning: “When I first started in my basement, 15 years ago, I had no idea that we could grow so much. I had visions and plans, but this kind of success isn’t predictable. It was my passion combined with my employees and the whole international team which has driven our success. Right now we have 84 employees in six countries and a revenue of 40 million eu-

ros. This is projected to exceed 50 million euros this year. This is simply not plannable. But the passion, the professionalism and the love for the job has brought us to this situation”, concluded Davor Sertic.

An employee from day one and now CFO, Ga-briela Tomasikova reviewed the past 15 years highlighting the many successes of the compa-ny. “Today, there are many guests present that I don’t know and certainly they don’t know me.

UnitCargo´s development route: this is how the com-pany’s rapid growth looks (from its inception to today).

But they love the UnitCargo spirit that we have created together. I wish UnitCargo another 100 years if possible. We certainly won’t be here to see it happen. But our spirit should live on”, said Tomasikova.

President of the Vienna Economic Chamber Walter Ruck emphasized the value of UnitCargo in the logistics world. In greeting the guests he praised the success and passion of the UnitCargo CEO who is also the Vienna Economic Chamber representative for transport and traffic. He con-cluded with awarding him a prize for 15 years of successful business. Vienna’s Council member and Vice-Mayor Maria Vassilakou spoke warmly about the success and role of UnitCargo in the logistics world.Highlight of the evening was the well-known Austrian group “The Rats are Back“ entertaining our guests with their original swing per-formance. DJ Mario Solc handled the sounds providing party atmosphere throughout. The guests also played a big part in making the evening such a success.

A company able to gather so many of its customers, business partners, friends and team members on its 15th anniversary can only expect good things to happen in the near future. The warm reception of so many guests proves that UnitCargo is fully committed to its credo “We believe in a better logistics world”.

FORUM GREEN LOGISTICS 2019

I mpressive Vienna offices of ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) was the venue for the 5th Fo-rum Green logistics held on the 5th Septem-

ber 2019, which developed the theme of Dream, Technology and Plan. The dream of course is for a pollution free supply chain, with technol-

ogy focused on the ultimate elimination of the internal combustion engine and a plan centred on interconnected emissions free supply chains. The topic this year was: “The very first truly ze-ro-emission, conditioned transport of plants from the Netherlands to Austria”.The event was hosted by Bernd Winter, editor in chief of the weekly logistics magazine “Verkehr” with speakers including President of the Forum Davor Sertic, Wolfgang Riedl (ÖBB Rail Cargo Austria AG), Friedrich Lehr (Port Vienna), Man-fred Gronald (BOKU - University of Natural Re-sources and Life Sciences, Vienna), Martin Pos-set (Thinkport Vienna) and Frank Rick (University of Applied Science Rotterdam). While it was accepted that though last mile logis-tics in urban areas with low daily km’s per vehicle may be the first to feel the effects of zero emis-sions transport, the use of such vehicles in heavy and long-distance haulage remains problematic. Possible solutions for the extention of CO2-free mobility into this sector was given by: Egbert Guis (Oldenburger transport), Eric Beers (Hytruck) and Julia Williams (Sustainability Coordinator). Though examples of battery and hybrid trucks were provid-ed it remains clear that currently, the achievement of such a goal lies somewhere in the future.

UnitCargo CEO Davor Sertic who thanked all the special people, who had helped UnitCargo Ser-bia in its mission to start to create a better logistics world. “Serbia is in the heart of our corridor and it is in my heart as well, ‘cause I am from ex-Yugoslavia. I believe in the potential of Serbia and there-fore we are going to invest further in UnitCargo Serbia. Our strategy for the branch office in Novi Sad is to open a warehouse in 3 years and to have more than 30 em-ployees with a turnover of 10 mil. euros”, says UnitCargo CEO. A joint discussion between Rail Cargo Group education chairman Franz Heißenberger and UnitCargo CEO Davor Sertic has re-

sulted in a programme of knowledge transfer in which staff from Rail Cargo come to UnitCargo for three months in order to learn about inter-national road transport and logistics. In return, members of the UnitCargo team are given the opportunity to study for a professional qualifi-cation in logistics management known as KEEP MOVING Expert Training Spedition & Logistics.Last year Lumturi Rushiti, UnitCargo Key Account Manager successfully completed the KEEP MOVING course and for 2019, the UnitCargo nominee is Elif Aktas. insight into other aspects of the supply chain and I am sure that it will enable me to improve my career. It’s really great that, though we are a com-pany focussed on truck transport we have a deep

knowledge of all aspects of logistics”.Both Davor Sertic and Franz Heißenberger agree: “We regard our initiative as a showcase project in the freight forwarding and logistics industry. Not hoarding but sharing must be the motto of the future. With better knowledge of the entire in-dustry, the challenges of the future can be man-aged much better”.

looking forward to keeping our business successful like this for many years in the future as well”, said Flo-rian Stessl and Daniel Stessl from “Comtrix“ for our Journal.UnitCargo team is also sharing positive thoughts about this cooperation:„We’re glad to have excellent technical support from a company such as Comtrix. Our cooperation of many years is proof of the trust and quality they pro-vide. This year is the year of festivities for us and our long-time associate – Comtrix. UnitCargo celebrates 15 years in the industry, whereas Comtrix celebrates a successful period of 20 years of doing business. That being said, this is the year of our anniversaries and our success stories – and that’s cause for celebration!“

A 20th anniversary celebration of the company Comtrix and its doing business so successfully

all these years was held in October 2019. The celebration had a truly tra-ditional Austrian feel; after all, it was held in the heart of Austria – in the Steiermark region, where the head office of the company is located. The guests, in-cluding UnitCargo’s management team, enjoyed not only spending time in the magnificent nature, but also an interesting program prepared and excellently car-ried out by this company.“The cooperation between these two companies – Comtrix and UnitCargo - has started many years ago. Therefore, the long-time cooperation brought us to a relationship based on respect and trust from both sides. Our product “4ward” is an ´open´ software, which grows all the time as the needs and wishes of our clients grow. Also, UnitCargo’s constant flow of very good ideas brought us to develop our software even more and make it even better. This was finalized also thanks to our contact persons at UnitCargo, who were very familiar with EDV-solutions. We were al-ways there to support UnitCargo in challenges with software and so we were growing up together during all these years. And when our clients are satisfied, we are satisfied as well. Therefore, we are very proud of the fact that we had and we still have the chance to follow UnitCargo on its way to success and we´re

common denominator of AfB and the logistics indus-try. Against the background of the ever-increasing media-present climate debate, the topic becomes more and more relevant, gaining ever more publici-ty. Since currently little is known about our social & green business model, especially among companies in the transport and logistics sector, forums like these are incredibly valuable in enabling us to enter into

personal dialogue and exchange,” adds Mrs. Sikora. On August 27th 2019, UnitCargo provided the AfB with its first batch of equipment for collection as a cooperation partner. Not only did this help UnitCar-go maintain its commitment to sustainability, but the total erasure of data which AfB undertakes ensures that GDPR considerations are fully covered. For this cooperation said Davor Sertic, CEO of UnitCargo: “As our company stands for fairness and sustain-ability, we are particularly pleased about this part-nership.” And Managing Director of AfB in Austria, Kurt Essler commented: “We are really very pleased about this new partnership with UnitCargo, as we are still very little known by companies in the trans-port and logistics industry”.
